About Marvellous Missy (AV981)
Marvellous Missy is looking for a family who, like her, want to grab hold of life and squeeze every bit of fun out of it.
This enthusiastic, friendly, confident girl loves to play and enjoys long walks. She's got plenty of stamina and would be a terrific running partner! Missy's ideal home has staffy-loving people who want to include her as part of the family every day. She has good manners inside and is completely house-trained. Unfortunately Missy has had a rough time lately and found herself on death-row in the pound after her owners surrendered her to the rangers. She was given up because the other dog in her home was relentlessly bullying and attacking her, leaving her physically an emotionally scarred. This is why her face looks a bit gnarly!
As a result of her experiences, Missy is unsure of other dogs. When she was trapped in a yard with a dog who wouldn't leave her alone, she learned that her best defence was to fight back. Consequently, Missy needs to be the only dog in the home. She has interacted appropriately and politely with some dogs in kennels, but with others she is highly reactive. For her to make a full psychological recovery from her experiences, the best out-come for her will to be living a life where her family has eyes only for her! This means that if you are looking for a dog to take to parks and beaches, or if you have friends and family who regularly visit and bring their dogs, Missy is (sadly) not for you.
But, if you want a loyal, loving, playful and gregarious new canine friend to be your one and only, then this is the dog for you.
Missy knows basic commands and is quick to learn. She is strong on lead and needs to learn "4 paws on the floor" (that is, jumping up is NOT the best way to greet new people) but will learn quickly with positive reinforcement. Missy also requires secure, 6 foot + fencing all the way around her yard.
Missy is great with kids but due to her strength and current jumping, we would advise kids at least 8 years of age and preferably dog savvy.
We also did a cat test with Missy which she passed with flying colours so if you have dog friendly cats (but no dog), she could also fit into your family!
We know that sadly, Missy is one of hundreds of dogs looking for new homes... just another little staffy who doesn't get on well with dogs. BUT we also know that Missy is one in a million. She's unique and special and deserves all the love in the world. Can you be this girl's hero?
Medical notes
Missy has some scarring and old healing wounds on her face and neck but these require no further treatment.
Adoption details
Thank you for taking the time to view one of our lovely animals. We love them all and we hope you will too.
If you would like to know more about an animal please call Freedom on 0409 000 259. If it sounds like you and the furry creature are a suitable match then we will pass on the foster carer’s details to you so you can call and make a time to meet them.
Once you have met the animal and wish to go further then we may organise a yard check to ensure that your yard is safe and secure (dogs only). You can then take your new family member home on a 2 week trial and if you decide they are not suitable then you can return them.
If you are not sure how existing animals in your home might be affected, or you want a little extra time to get to know the nature of the animal, we may allow you to foster with a view to adopt.
