About Dougie Gerry
Sweet little Dougie Gerry is not your typical Poodle x. He needs a special home and someone who will take seriously his anxiety issues.
There are so many beautiful aspects to Dougies personality. He's loyal, loving and devoted. He loves his people and although shy at first, he bonds closely to those he loves and devotes his whole heart to his person.
Dougie is crate trained. He loves his cosy den and retreats to it when he needs a break. He snuggles deep under the blankets.
He loves to play in his ball pit, his foster mum hides treats amongst the balls and he has a wonderful time finding all the wonderful things! When he's excited and playing, he hops around like a goat and his carer refers to him as "adorkable".
Dougie loves going on regular trips to the beach and for rides in the car.
Dougie would love his human to be home a lot with quality time to spend with him. He doesn't show the common signs of separation anxiety, however when his carer is at work he lies in the window waiting for her to come home. He absolutely refuses to move until she's home again and it breaks her heart. We'd love to find a home where Dougies humans are not working long hours.
However Dougie is an anxious dog who can be strongly reactive to other dogs. He has seen a trainer and a veterinary behaviourist who have supported his foster carer to help Dougie with his generalised anxiety and reactive nature when he encounters other dogs. We have spent over $1000 on trainers, the behaviour vet and his medication and thanks to the support he's received, Dougie has come a long way. He has such a big heart and once we find the right home for him, they'll be lucky to have him.
The perfect home for Dougie Gerry must fit the following criteria:
- No other dogs
- No small children
- A yard where he can play and chase bugs!
- Someone who can spend quality time with him
- Someone who'll continue with his behaviour plan which is helping him overcome his anxiety
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside, Jindalee, Browns Plains or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heartworm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Dougie takes anxiety medication daily.
