About Digby
Digby really needs to have his very own family and his own special person who will love him unconditionally.
We have had lots of interest in him but he needs a person who can be more about what he needs from them rather than what they need from him, initially.
He is so worth it. He's a special little guy who wants a person to bond with and wants to be loved.
Digby can't have an owner who is not confident around dogs and is not able to provide loving but firm boundaries, consistency, patience and persistence.
He has been with us for some weeks now and is sweet, compliant and agreeable. He happily does what I ask him to. That wasn't the case when he first came - and it hasn't been the case with his adoption trials. He's had two now - and been returned for: barking at men, soiling inside, snapping and growling when approached unexpectedly or asked to do something he's not sure he wants to do - or maybe doesn't know what he's supposed to do.
It takes time for him to feel comfortable with a person. As the bond and the trust grows - he relaxes and is more compliant. We have been teaching him to be a little more independent and sleep in a crate - and this has helped - he is one of those dogs who benefits from NOT being allowed to be the boss and call the shots. Someone who lets him do exactly as he pleases is NOT best in this instance.
I think a recently retired person who has time and patience on their side - and can let him come to them for attention - rather than wanting to love all over him immediately will be best for him.
We are more than happy to assist with a behaviourist/trainer to work with Digby and his new person to get their relationship off on the right foot. This is what he needs - a certainty, a commitment - and support and guidance for him and his person. He has come an enormous way with us - but it will need to be repeated with his forever person.
He is a dear little fellow. He worries. He's unsure. But he wants to do what is right and he wants to love - and be loved. He gets on well with other dogs and is not dominant at all, he loves a walk, eats well, loves a bone and loves to sit next to his special person.
If you can see a Digby in your life - please get in touch to have a chat.
Medical notes
Digby has just had a dental and had 15 teeth removed. He is also being treated for an ear infection associated with allergies (most likely) and he may experience ear infections from time to time on an ongoing basis - though this may be reduced via diet and allergy management.
Adoption details
If you are interested in one of our dogs, please send us an email at: hopespringseternaldogrescue@gmail.com in the first instance telling us who you are interested in, and why. We will then send you an adoption application to complete.
At a minimum, we will expect that all of our dogs will be inside/outside dogs and will be treated as a valued member of the family.
If your family needs match the needs of the dog, we will call you to discuss further and arrange a time for you to meet the puppy you are interested in.
If this goes well and you are keen to proceed, we will organise a mutually convenient time with you to undertake a fence/home check - and for the dog you are interested in to meet the rest of the family - both human and other animals.
If you feel that you would like to add the dog to your family, we will ask you to pay the adoption fee and the dog will commence a 4 week trial period - for all of you (both humans and pets) to make sure that you will all be happy living together. We will check in on you during this time and will be available to respond to any concerns you may have during this period.
If everyone is happy at the conclusion of the trial, we will transfer the microchip and provide you with any medical records and information we have on the dog you have adopted.
We will take the dog back into care at any time - if things do not work out - and we appreciate that sometimes - they just don't - for a number of reasons.
We will ask for a happy snap of the dog with their new family members for our adoption gallery and will ask whether we can use that in promoting our rescue on Facebook, the Internet or other promotional materials.
We want the process of adoption to be a happy and exciting time for you and your potential new family member and will work with you to make the experience as positive as possible.
