About Nellie
Are you after your very own stick-to-your-side velcro-dog? One that comes complete with her very own in-built wookie soundtrack? Then Nellie might be the perfect dog for you to adopt and make part of your family.
Nellie is about 4 years old and is a blue heeler cattle dog cross. She is black and white and grey with flopped over border collie type ears that don’t stand all the way up. This gives her a cute and goofy sort of look.
Nellie is not a super energetic dog but does need daily exercise and mental stimulation. She really loves hanging out with her humans doing things like watch dinner being cooked and hoping for a treat to fall from the bench, snugging in for marathon cuddles, rolling over for tummy tickles and sun baking in the garden. She loves having a Chewbacca-type chat, particularly if she would like to go for a walk or when she thinks you may have forgotten that it might be dinner time. Nellie is happy to be in the garden while her people are around but can get a little anxious if left outside for extended periods on her own. She is house trained and is happy to be left inside napping on her bed if you are heading out of the house. At night, she sleeps inside on her own doggie bed as she thinks Melbourne winters are a bit cold to be outside all alone.
Nellie has been getting along very well with her two foster sister-dogs but will need slow introductions to strange dogs as she gets quite excited when she sees other dogs while out on walks. She would benefit from more work on learning good doggie manners and socialisation with other dogs. Nellie has some basic training already - she knows how to sit, drop, wait for her food and likes to try to shake hands. She is in the process of being crate trained and is learning to walk well on lead but still likes to pull a little at the start of the walk when she is excited to be out and about. She is very food motivated and is keen to be rewarded for good behaviour - so would really enjoy going to obedience school and building a bond with her humans. In the meantime, she is enjoying training to be a good coffee-companion doggie and meeting fellow customers at the local cafe.
She has not been tested with cats, birds or very small children, so very slow introductions would be required. Her foster family don’t know if she has had any past experience with larger livestock (horses, cows and sheep etc.) and as she is currently in foster care in the city, she has not had any contact with farm animals while in foster care.
Nellie would love a home where she is a part of the family and gets to spend a reasonable part of each day with her humans. Are you her new family? Nellie would be very happy to have a wookie-talk and a snuggle with you while you quickly fall in love with each other.
