About Athena
**Found as a stray, Athena has been in OTC care for 21 days, waiting for her previous owners to come forward, as per law. As expected, no one owned up so now she is available for adoption.**
Hello there, my name is Athena and it is a pleasure to meet you. One day, a lovely lady found me scared and alone living behind her business. The lady knew that if she called on OTC, they wouldn't hesitate to help me. Within half an hour, OTC rocked up and coaxed me with some delicious Blackhawk biscuits. I was so frightened I couldn't stop shaking, but those biscuits are so delicious, and the ladies trying to help me were so nice. They were able to convince me to go with them and I am so happy that I did.
The took me straight to the vet for a chip scan and surprise surprise, there wasn't one there. I was not desexed either, had very very long nails and I was very skinny. But most of all I was so scared. I just couldn't stop shaking. The OTC lady that picked me up decided that she just needed to foster me so she took me home.
It was nice being in a warm, safe home, and I even had other doggy friends to play with. They made me feel very safe and loved. I didn't like when they would play with squeaky toys though - they were terrifying!! I've now learnt that squeaky toys are THE BEST and I love playing with them now, but at the beginning I would drop every time I heard one - how sad is that!! I was also scared of kissy noises from my foster but I very quickly learnt that they meant really good things.
Despite my awful past, I am a very loving girl and I am just desperate for a family to love me back. I love being with my humans and having doggy friends to play with. I spend my days outside with the other dogs were we all play and nap in the sun but I never do anything naughty. Sometimes I like to chew toys up but who doesn't, and I never touch anything I shouldn't. I sleep inside at night in a fluffy bed in the lounge room and don't make a noise until my humans wake up and give me breakfast.
I have a short stumpy tail so when I get excited, my whole bum wiggles - it's just the cutest thing ever. If you don't fall in love with my sweet face, you will fall in love with my wiggle <3
I love all toys, but especially balls. I love to chase after them and jump into the air to catch them and show off my skills. I'm quite athletic actually, and I am able to jump fences, but only if I want to. My current house has a 6ft fence on one side that I can't get over, but a 4 ft one on the other side that I could easily jump, but I have never even attempted to nor do I want to. I am a loyal girl and as long as you love me, I will love you. I love to play and would definitely need a doggy friend at home for me to play with while you are at work.
I live with cats, but I don't like them very much. I mean, I tolerate them but when they move I think it's a game. OTC are working hard on training to make me behave better around cats and I am improving very well.
Since being in care I have been fully vaccinated, microchipped and desexed. I am a hppay, healthy and beautiful dog that needs a patient owner to love me exactly how I deserve.
Medical notes
Happy and healthy and fully vetted
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following: real estate approval, fence repair if needed, outside shelter areas and look into the dog's breed dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed.
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applications may meet the dogs. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the dog at your home, or in a public place. If you have other animals they must be at the meet.
If at the meet, you and the dog get along- you have the option of either taking the dog on the spot (in exchange for the full adoption fee paid upfront, and contract signed)- or placing the dog on hold for up to 2 days without any holding fee applicable. When adoption begins you will be provided with 7 days' worth of food for the dog, as well as what brand and type of food it is, so that you may change their diet carefully and slowly, or purchase more, if needed.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold dogs for 3 days or longer, without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the dog, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters and so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit non refundable to avoid time-wasters, especially when it comes to puppies under 5 months of age. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the dog. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you pay a $100 holding fee so we can hold the dog for a week- the day you collect the dog you will sign and adoption contract, and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $50 is non-refundable.
During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic in your area and OTC will cover any treatment needed.
On commencement of the trial period, OTC will send you a copy of your signed contract, the vaccination cards, desexing certificate and microchip number implant details.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox.
