About Billy
Billy Bones is a very special boy. When he arrived in care, he was shut down and terrified. What he has endured, we cannot begin to imagine, but it seems certain that he was physically abused. He has been a beautiful boy to work with and watching him fight his fear and his belief that every hand and boot will deliver a beating, has been a journey that is both heartbreaking and yet beautiful. He has gone from a dog who would put anything he could between him and you touching him, to joyously running with our pack and sleeping on his bed in the lounge room at night. He sleeps on a lead with no accidents, but his toilet training is still a work in progress. He will not always come to you when called, but loves treats and will certainly come for those. He would have been a worker once, and loves to eye my alpacas, but will not herd unless asked. He is wonderful with other dogs, big and small, perfect with free range poultry but not cage birds and cats are an unknown. Every now and then he favours one back leg, probably the result of a kick, but this doesn't hinder his joy of running at all. He is a quiet boy by nature, and does not resource guard. He is quite good on lead, though can spook and still needs to be gently lifted into the car for trips, but travels very well. The time has come for him to have a forever home, which has been an extremely difficult decision. The longer he stays, the harder it will be for him to assimilate into a new family.
His ideal family would be late teens, and adults with another well adjusted dog for company, as he takes his confidence from the other dogs here. Preferably a secure yard, though he doesn't jump, but most importantly, someone who has had real experience with this type of dog and can further enable him to be the wonderful companion we know he can be. If you are that very special person/family we would love to hear from you.
