About Thunder ~ 6mo Border Collie x (on trial 6/08/17)
Meet Thunder – a handsome and easygoing Border Collie x boy. Thunder is about 6 months old and does not appear like he will become an overly big dog. Whilst his personality has come out with each day since he has gotten out of the pound, he is still reasonably calm compared to most working breed pups his age although he does love a spirited walk every day.
Thunder was rescued from a country pound at the last minute. His carer had already filled up the van with dogs, although had to add one more pooch before swiftly departing and bringing them back to Newcastle. Thunder instantly collapsed on the front seat of the van and promptly fell asleep, seemingly knowing he was safe straight away. Thunder was an absolute angel on the long drive home, and has travelled very well in the car on any other journeys he has been on since.
Thunder was very underweight and under nourished when he came out of the pound. Although Thunder has a very slight build anyway (no doubt as a result of the kelpie which appears to be in him), he needed some immediate fattening up which was achieved with little issue as Thunder is an absolute food monster. Thunder is still learning manners when it comes to eating his food, but has no issue with food aggression – he’s just a bit of a thief if given the chance.
Thunder walks quite well on the lead, although will pull a bit if he is being walked with other dogs who also pull. Thunder is not a nuisance barker and is rarely heard from. Thunder enjoys being able to come inside at night and spend some quality time inside, and would ideally go to a home where he is allowed to sleep inside. Thunder is toilet trained and is learning that inside time is quiet time and he is to relax on his bed when he comes inside. Thunder has not been tested with cats or pocket pets.
Thunder would ideally suit an active person, couple or family. Thunder rarely jumps up, except when highly excited and would not be too much of a problem to be with school age children. He does not require a huge amount of exercise, although would definitely benefit both physically, emotionally and behaviourally from being able to have at least a half an hour walk each day. Thunder would also benefit from having a doggy companion, preferably one with a little bit of go still in them so he can have a play. That being said, Thunder is not a highly active player himself.
For more information or to meet Thunder, please email Ben at thereddrums@hotmail.com. Thunder is currently in care at Maryland, NSW (Newcastle area) and is available for adoption interstate.
Thunder's adoption fee is $500 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all of our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Happy and healthy boy.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
