About “Luke”, Your Best Mate in Waiting. Melbourne
Luke has been described as “the border collie of the greyhound world”. This isn’t just because he’s got border collie markings (jet black with a white neck and muzzle and white paws), but also because he’s one of the most loyal, devoted companions you’re ever likely to find. Luke is all about his humans, and just wants to shadow them wherever they go and shower them with affection.
Luke loves his morning walk, sometimes prancing along like a show pony, and will even go for a jog if you’re up for it. As long as he gets his morning exercise, he’s a happy lazy boy for the rest of the day. Luke loves his pats and cuddles, and will wriggle upside-down while you rub his tummy. His preference with other dogs is medium to large and he is not keen on cats. Humans remain his top priority, however. Luke took some time to get used to his humans leaving him alone, so will need lots of human or doggy company in his forever home, at least while he’s settling in. Luke’s toilet-trained and making good progress learning house rules. He’s especially interested in reflective surfaces, and sometimes barks at his own reflection in the television!
Luke is proof that greyhounds can be as devoted and people-oriented as any other breed, with the laid-back goofiness unique to their character. We can’t wait to find a human best friend for the lovely Luke to give his heart to.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
