Meet Lucy, she came into care with her litter of 13 puppies who have now all been adopted to their furever homes and is wanting to find a furever home for herself.

Lucy is a very sweet natured dog who loves a good snuggle. She is best as an inside dog who wants nothing more than to be able to lounge on your bed with you. She is an expressive girl with her body language, facial expressions and sometimes has a little winge in the form of groaning.

She has come a long way since she has been in care, at first, she was quite timid and reactive to a variety of different things when overaroused. Now she generally ignores most things with few slip-ups. Despite her major improvement in this area it is recommended she has dog savvy owners who are patient and prepared to continue working with her in these areas.

She is friendly to all people but can be protective as well depending on how you respond (i.e. She will have a little bark if someone comes to the door but if you tell her it’s okay and introduce them her tail will wag and she will be friends). She is a very good companion dog and would prefer an owner that is home lots but can be left alone when needed usually just laying sulkily on the bed for your return.

Lucy would prefer a home where she is the only dog as she can be a bit jealous at times. When coming in to care she seemed to have very little socialisation with other dogs but she has been meeting a variety whilst in care and improving, this is something that would need to be continued when adopted also. She loves going for walks and whilst she doesn’t go stir crazy when she doesn’t have one she will sometimes get sooky so she would love someone who is prepared to take her for a walk most days even if it is just around the block. She knows a variety of words and commands as she is a smart girl, these include sit , stay , wait , lay down, “go wee wee’s” , shake , come here , in your bed (although she often tries to play dumb with this one) and more!
