Mick

Mick the Kelpie is a character, no doubt about that! A typical Aussie mate with plenty of get up and go! Mick is a large adult kelpie boy, but don’t be fooled by Mick’s robust physicality... he also has a sensitive side that will win over your heart.

Mick sits on command and his recall is generally good. He is great at heeling right behind you on lead or off. Typical to his working bloodlines, Mick can get distracted when the lure of livestock calls to him. He would do well with a firm fair leader to show him the ropes. Mick has worked cattle in a previous home, and with training has potential.

Mick gets along well with other dogs, and good naturedly accepts a telling off from his bossy foster sibling. On lead, he can be a little macho with new male doggie friends, but with more introductions this will no doubt improve. Mick currently lives in a home with cats and chooks, and at times he needs reminding to leave them alone. Mick likes his toys to chew on, and although he will bound after a ball, he hasn’t yet learnt to bring it back! He enjoys loping about with his foster siblings, stretching his legs heartily in the open spaces.

Mick loves his bones, and like most dogs hooks into his tucker heartily. In the past, Mick has slept outside in a dog yard, and he is currently quiet in his crate inside at night. He is good on the chain (after a few little whines as you head out of sight). Mick would suit a home that does not have livestock temptations, or if on acreage, has a secure area where Mick can switch off and enjoy his doggie down time. An athletic fellow, Mick clears farm fencing with ease, and so a decent height fence would keep him safe and happy.

Mick adores his people and is eager to please. He would be best in a home with adults, as he finds young children a bit exciting and hasn’t quite worked out they are not for rounding up! A country lad originally, Mick has adjusted well to the luxuries of being inside. After a busy day, he loves nothing more than contentedly lying at your feet in the living room. A big tough kelpie boy, who would gladly curl up on your lap if given the chance!

Like most working breed dogs, Mick will excel in a home with regular exercise and inspiration to keep his clever mind entertained. A handsome & charming boy is our Mick the Kelpie!
