About Jamaica
Jamaica is a great well-socialised little dog. She is terrific with people of all ages, especially fond of children and gentle with them. She is on the smaller side of medium, weighing in at only 14 kg, and plays sweetly with her puppy mate Arthur, but also enjoys games of chasey and dog wrestling with the bigger dogs in the crew.
She loves her off lead bush walk and is great at exploring and running around but recognises her name and comes back when she is called. At least part of her walk she is on the lead for practice, and being very smart and cooperative, she learnt to walk nicely on the lead in minutes.
Jamaica is a mini-athlete and would do best in a home where she will get plenty of walks and some off lead time each day, as she loves to meet and greet other dogs and humans. She has not had much formal training but we can see that she is very quick on the uptake, and with an owner who would take her to obedience classes she would develop into a perfect companion and family member.
Our rescue and rehabilitation work happens in Central Australia, but because of the scarcity of adopters locally, our re-homing operation is in South Australia. Jamaica's adoption fee includes crate hire, courier transport by road from Tennant Creek to Alice Springs, and a direct flight from Alice Springs to Adelaide. She is currently in foster care in Elliott community, 2 hours north of Tennant Creek.
Medical notes
Jamaica will be wormed and heart-worm treated again just before leaving the Territory. She should be de-wormed fortnightly for another month and have at least 1 further heart-worm treatment after he arrives down south, before reverting to a normal worming regime.
Adoption details
We request that prospective adopters email us with an initial enquiry. We will forward an application form. On receipt of the application form, we will make phone contact to discuss the adoption. We try hard to match the dog to the person, ultimately looking for the best fit for the dog. Shipping fees may or may not be included in the adoption fee, and this will be stated in the pet's profile.
