About Christa ~ fox terrier, 6yo, girl (Trial 16/7/17)
Christa, Fox Terrier, just turned 6 years old. She is the perfect combination of playful and relaxed. She is not challenging or high energy, she is just as happy to hang out with you doing nothing as she is having a little play or a walk. She has a very calm nature and is happy to play with her toys on her own but especially loves to play with other dogs.
She is no trouble and is content to sit next to you and not be all over you. She loves people of all ages. She weighs 10kgs. She loves going for a walk and walks nicely on lead, thoroughly enjoying all the fascinating scents. Going to the beach is her special treat. She is good off lead and likes to run in and out of the waves. She doesn’t require lots of exercise, just a daily walk. But if you want to take her for little runs she will that’s fun too.
She is an inside dog and is well housetrained. She knows how to use a doggie door. She must be allowed inside when people are home and to sleep indoors. She’d be very grateful to be allowed to sleep in a person’s bedroom or on the couch.
She has a short coat that sheds very little, which is a real bonus because some small dogs shed like crazy. It’s a good thing she has a low maintenance coat because she hates getting a bath. She feels the cold and will appreciate a coat during cold nights and mornings. She doesn’t like lying on the grass so she needs a blanket or bed on the grass outside so she can enjoy the sunshine. Her previous owner has sent her blanket with her.
Christa is living with 3 other small dogs and gets along well with all of them. She likes to play chasings and tug-of-war with other dogs. She pays no attention to chickens in their hutch and didn’t react when she saw a cat jump into her yard. She is smart and has some basic training.
Christa travels well in the car. She is not a nuisance barker. She is good with children. Of course, children need to understand to be gentle with her and not try to pick her up or put their face in hers, so any resident children should be 10 years or older and used to dogs.
Christa needs a home where there is someone who doesn't work long hours. She gets anxious if left home alone for long, but doesn’t bark. She could be an only dog if she gets lots of time with people, but she would also be happy to live with other dogs.
Christa has had some bad luck in her short life. She spent the first three years of her life alone outside with no other dog and an owner who was rarely home. Then she was surrendered to Dog Rescue Newcastle and her luck turned when she got adopted by a family that loved her. But, bad luck once again, recently they had a family break down and Christa was very sadly given back to DRN. Her previous owner loves her and has sent her with some of her favourite things and a booklet with all her records to help her settle into her forever home.
She is just a quiet, well behaved little girl who will be a perfect companion. We look forward to finding her a home where she will receive attention, walks and love.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
