About Chilli ~ Rottweiler x Kelpie (On Trial 18/11/17)
Chilli is a 1 year old boy, possibly Rottweiler x Kelpie with a whole lot of love to give! He is a bit of a clown with his toothy grin and spotty tongue and has a very expressive face. If you’re looking for a companion and family dog, then Chilli is your man! He absolutely adores his humans and thoroughly enjoys their attention. He loves nothing more than to be where you are, sitting at your feet, on your feet or just hanging close by. His favourite things to do are snuggles, cuddles and belly rubs! He also loves his walkies and outings, splashing about with water so trips to the beach, chew toys and games and playing with other dogs.
Chilli is very obedient and will follow instruction very well; he will sit, stay, drop and wait for food every time you ask. His recall is excellent. Being so eager to please and food driven makes him easy to train and work with.
He loves his walks and off leash running; he is a fantastic running partner! He will need a capable and confident person as he is quite strong and being a young dog has the energy to match. He absolutely loves his walks and can pull quite strongly at first due to excitement, but quickly gets into a good walking pace. He will need a daily walk or run, enrichment activities and interaction to expel some of that energy.
Chilli is generally a confident dog that is fine outside when his family aren't home. He could be an only dog. However, he also interacts well with other friendly, confident dogs. He loves to play and roughhouse and can be quite full on so will need a friend who can handle this behaviour, hence a meet and greet is essential if he is to live in a multiple dog household. He currently lives with another similar energetic companion and they get along fantastically.
Chilli generally won’t do well around cats or pocket pets as he may be just too much for them.
Towards his human family, he is very sweet and easy to be with. He is fantastic with children as he is calm around them and enjoys interaction. He is a bit of a sook when it comes to females and generally has no problems with males. However, due to some unfortunate prior experiences, he can be a little scared of some males but proper introductions will go a long way to creating bonds. He is currently living with a man in his foster household and he absolutely adores him and has from the start.
Chilli travels well in the car but can be a little anxious of busy traffic. Loud, busy places with a lot going on can sometimes prove too much. When he feels threatened, he can act a little bit protective and doesn’t like others getting too close to himself or to his family. However, working with him in a calm manner will help alleviate any stress and is easy to do as he is so eager to please and loves his treats!
Chilli will make a great security system for your home as he will alert you to strangers; however he calms down quickly and is not a nuisance barker. Chilli will do best with someone who is home a lot as he can fret a little when left alone (he just wants to be with you!). However this can be easily managed by providing him with enrichment while you are gone such as chew toys / bones. He is totally fine if left with another dog and is gradually becoming more conditioned to being completely on his own.
Chilli is a lovely boy who like all of us does best when feeling secure and unstressed. He has such an affectionate and easy going nature who loves his family immensely and is a joy to be around!

(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). (2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
