About “Nikki”, Just Wants to be Loved. Melbourne
“Nikki”, Just Wants to be Loved
Nikki has figured out that being a pet is all about being loved! She was nervous and timid when she came into foster care, but has realised how wonderful it is to be treated with kindness and affection. As her confidence builds, Nikki’s coming out of her shell, asking for tummy rubs (she’s addicted!), and resting her head in her foster carer’s lap.
Nikki’s a gorgeous healthy girl, with great teeth, bright eyes, and a slightly quirky bowed front leg that doesn’t slow her down. For a young dog, Nikki is gentle and relaxed, and gets by with a walk a day, a long snooze, and plenty of pats. She enjoys the company of her whippet foster siblings, but would also be ok as an only dog with humans for company, as long she gets the love that she lives for! She’s fine with children (six or over) and small dogs, but too fond of chasing to live with a cat.
Living with Nikki means watching a heart-warming voyage of discovery unfold. Everything was strange and scary at first (especially lino floors!), but she’s realised that home is where she has a soft bed, a snuggly blanket, and lots of love. Nikki’s curious about whatever’s going on, and her foster carers love seeing her cute little raccoon-like face with the floppy windmill ears peeking around the edge of the lounge room door.
Does your home have some more love and cuddles for Nikki to discover?

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
