About Buddy ~ German Shorthair Pointer (on trial 18/8/17
Buddy is a stunningly handsome German shorthaired pointer who is 2 years and 4 months old. He is playful, loves going for walks, loves running even more, and adores being with his humans at every possible moment.
Buddy, being a working breed, is extremely intelligent, eager to please, and has loads of energy. He is in excellent physical health, apart from dry skin common to his breed, and loves being active!
Buddy will need exercising and a good long run (he can easily make 5-15km) or nice long walk twice a day, so would suit a very active single, couple, or family with older confident children (more than 10 years old) due to his energy levels and size. He would love a large yard, or would also suit a rural environment with good secure fencing of 6 feet. Around the home he loves a good long game of fetch, and is perfectly content to follow you around the house and keep you company at your feet while you do your chores.
Buddy was surrendered to DRN through no fault of his own, when his family was re-posted overseas. Buddy has been on trial, and tried to live with other dogs, but has decided he would rather be an only dog, as he is very solely dedicated to his humans. He does not like cats or lizards, but is not bothered by loud noises, sirens, the vacuum cleaner or storms. As he is very people oriented, and frets when left alone for long periods, he would prefer someone who does not work hours that are too long. He is not destructive, does not dig, and isn’t a nuisance barker.
Buddy is quickly responding to lead retraining with his new Halti, and knows sit, fetch, responds to his name, and is learning come, down, stay and go. Unfortunately Buddy missed out on a lot of socialization as a puppy, and had a very lonely start to life, so can be quite dog reactive while out walking on a lead. Buddy would love some ongoing training to teach him not to pull, and to be calm around other dogs, as he is a rather big and strong fellow. His trainer thinks he has great potential to learn, and just needs a little time and love!
Buddy sleeps outside in his kennel at nighttime, but has free access to inside time when his family is home, and will happily lounge on his bed, or sleep anywhere near you. He is toilet trained, has lovely inside manners and easily responds to dog-friendly area training.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
