About Twitch
Meet Mr Personality! Twitch is a cat for someone who wants to change their life by adding a new cat. No fading wallflower, this little dude is absolutely the best. He is bursting with zest for life and wants to do nothing but smooch you all day long.
As is so often the case in life, it is those who face the most adversity that come out the strongest and Twitch is a great example of this. As you might have guessed, he got his name for a reason. Twitch has a condition called cerebellar hypoplasia (CH). When he was in his mumma’s womb, something didn’t go quite to plan with the development of a part of his brain called the cerebellum. It’s the bit at the back, which does various things, one of them being the control of unconscious muscle movement.
This includes things like the beating of his heart (a muscle) and processing food through his digestive tract (lots of muscles there!) Luckily for Twitch, he’s got it pretty mildly. So the only signs we see are his slight tremoring – his trademark twitch! He experiences ‘intention tremors’ so when he is thinking about or intending to do something, the message can be delayed. Which is why his walking and running are a bit uncoordinated (and, frankly, adorable).
The good news is, CH doesn’t get worse or cause other problems with age. In fact, it often becomes less noticeable as these hardy kitties become better and better at living with their condition. Twitch will have a normal life expectancy and wont have other health problems associated with this.
It is a necessity to keep him indoor only or with access to a secure cat run, however, as he doesn’t have the ability to get away from threats like cars, dogs or big bully tom cats.
Twitch loves other cats and dogs and would be great for children. He is a non-stop smoocher, though he doesn’t like to be cuddled too much as being held up in the air makes him feel less secure. Will you be the lucky person to take him home??
Adoption details
Thank you for taking the time to view one of our lovely animals. We love them all and we hope you will too.
If you would like to know more about an animal please call Freedom on 0409 000 259. If it sounds like you and the furry creature are a suitable match then we will pass on the foster carer’s details to you so you can call and make a time to meet them.
Once you have met the animal and wish to go further then we may organise a yard check to ensure that your yard is safe and secure (dogs only). You can then take your new family member home on a 2 week trial and if you decide they are not suitable then you can return them.
If you are not sure how existing animals in your home might be affected, or you want a little extra time to get to know the nature of the animal, we may allow you to foster with a view to adopt.
This pet has been adopted and found love with its new family.
