About Kanga
Kanga is a beautiful soul with so much love and life left in him. He has the sweetest character who is super friendly with people, kids and dogs. He's a total socialite who enjoys every day.
Kanga's owner passed away and he was handed on to a young girl. She recognised quickly that Kanga had many health conditions needing to be urgently addressed and she was unable to afford this. So he was surrendered to us. Despite him being in a bad way when he was rescued, he's now doing exceptionally well and hasn't allowed his past to change his happy nature.
Kanga has a quiet and calm nature, he is very polite and walks really well on lead. He is house trained and sleeps all night in his bed (or yours). Kanga enjoys lounging around, napping and snuggling with his humans and other doggy companions. He'd be happy to be in a home with other dogs, or on his own!
Despite his years, Kanga has good vision and hearing. He responds well to his foster carer who tells us he shows very few signs of arthritis, he loves to spring around with happiness and doesn't allow his age to slow him down.
Kanga takes medications every day, and he is so good with them, never refusing his tablets which are given to him with food. He loves his treats and will do anything for us, including displaying his perfect manners.
Sound like the perfect dog? Well it's remarkable what a survivor he is because if you'd asked us a few weeks ago, we thought we were going to lose Kanga! But this special old boy has overcome all odds and is the ultimate survivor.
When he came into care, Kanga had a bleeding tumour in his anus, dental disease, a heart murmur and needed basic vet work as he'd never been desexed. His tumour was removed and his general health improved greatly in care. Once his bleeding, painful tumour was gone, Kanga became a happy go lucky, social and cuddly little guy. You'd never guess he was 14.
Sadly, a few weeks ago he became very sick. He was rushed to hospital and was treated for haemorrhagic gastroenteritis. He was so so unwell we feared he would not survive. But in true Kanga style, he has rallied and is back to his normal, happy self!
He is a real survivor and our vets have said he may even have several years of life ahead! Despite being an older fellow, you'd never guess it when you meet him.
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside, Jindalee, Browns Plains or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heartworm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Kanga has had extensive veterinary care. He has had a tumour removal, ultrasounds and X-rays on his heart and comprehensive blood tests. He is on medication for his heart and will need to remain on this.
