On Hold
About Tarshi ~ Tibetan Spaniel x (behavioural hold)
Tarshi is a 2 year old Tibetan Spaniel x. She is a joy, a total sweetheart, loves to give you kisses. She has a sense of humour and loves to play. But she is very much her breed in most ways, aloof, catlike, wilful.
The Tibetan Spaniel personality is shown as " Trusting and affectionate toward family members, Tibetan Spaniels may be aloof toward strangers, although never aggressive. True to their heritage, they make excellent watchdogs and will bark to alert you of anything that seems unusual. Tibbies seem to be especially responsive to their people's moods and feelings. As loving as they are, however, they're independent thinkers and won't always obey, especially if they think they know better or don't see any good reason to do as you ask."
Tarshi came from a pound, found as a stray. So we will never know her history. When she first came into care she trusted no one. An independent girl who didn't want to be picked up, or touched and she made sure you knew it. With time she has learnt trust, enjoys cuddles and affection, but still has the independent streak.
Tarshi has her toys and bedding arranged just how she likes it. You can play with her toys with her, but afterwards she will put them back in her stash, almost like a security blanket. She is a hoarder and likes her possessions surrounding her. She will happily spend time inside with you but with her current her foster carer, prefers to sleep outside, ruler of her domain (and her stash). She will play with other similar sized dogs, but seems scared of bigger dogs. She loves walks and chasing around the yard playing games.
Tarshi has shown no indication of currently being house trained, but this could be Tarshi being unsettled due to sharing her home with other dogs. Mind you, she happily plays with those same dogs. A previous foster carer had found Tarshi to be house trained.
Tarshi will respond to commands once you have earned her trust and respect. She will try to acquire things for her stash, the cushions on the lounge, the towel while you are showering (don't laugh she also took the floor mat too). Tarshi did relinquish these goodies, with, I am sure, a twinkle in her eye.
Tarshi is lovely and much fun, but needs a home where they accept that this gorgeous girl is a tough nut, giving her time to trust you and then training her to be the best and most awesome companion I know she can be. But it will be a home without children, dogs, cats or pocket pets. It will preferably be a home that knows the breed well and has enough patience to reap the benefits of this captivating and irresistible babe.
For more information or to meet Tarshi, please contact her foster carer Doreen on 0407 721 759 or email Doreen.newton2@bigpond.com. Tarshi is in foster care in Singleton, NSW (west of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Tarshi's adoption fee is only $300 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
