About Honey
Hi everyone! I was named Honey because of how sweet I am. I came into care so terrified; but my sweet and loving nature quickly came through and I am a very loved and popular member of the OTC pack. I was surrendered to the council pound along with my puppies, and kill listed. Our friend Yeti was also surrendered and luckily OTC saved the whole family. We don't know what we could have done to deserve this; but not only was I dumped to be killed, I was in bad condition. I had chronic ear infections which were painful for me and had been left that way for quite a while. I was extremely frightened and head-shy. Luckily some special drops, a big clean out (they did the deep clean out while I was unconscious for desex luckily!) and an injection have got my ear infections under control and the maintenance won't be difficult at all for my new owners. It is so sad for my carers because the treatment was SO simple for such a bad infection- so the prevention would have been a piece of cake, my owners just didn't care enough to help me.I have gained confidence in my foster home and am enjoying meeting a heap of new people now that I know I am safe. I like other dogs too!
Apart from my (now managed) ear infections, I am a healthy and happy girl. I get along well with other dogs and LOVE to play. I am not afraid of big or rowdy dogs and love to run, tumble and wrestle. I have been around children big and small, and am great with them. I like to go on car rides and travel really well in the car. I have almost learned my new name, but of course you can change that if you adopt me. I learn new things quickly. I like to sleep inside at night, as close to you as I can. My foster currently lets me sleep in the lounge room. Apparently, I snore- I like to think of it as 'nose singing'!. I don't jump fences or dig, and rarely bark. I am an adoring, friendly and eager-to-please girl who has learned basic commands very quickly and loves to relax with you in the sun. I have an interesting look, that may be a mix of several different breeds. My team have tried to narrow down my breed mix but all YOU need to know, is Im a medium size, medium energy level, but HUGE heart!
Medical notes
I only have one health concern, and that is my ears. When I came into care, I had a really bad ear infection. An injection, a deep clean, and daily drops have helped to correct it. It's early days yet so OTC aren't sure if the drops will need to be an ongoing thing- because right now we need to 'trial and error' to see what the actual cause is. But even if they are going to need life long treatment; the drops are quite cheap and I take them really well. The current brand of the drops is 'Apex PMP' which is around $20 a bottle and lasts approx 1 month. I will come with a bottle if you adopt me. My profile will be updated as soon as any more info on my ear condition comes to light!
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following: real estate approval, fence repair if needed, outside shelter areas and look into the dog's breed dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed.
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applications may meet the dogs. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the dog at your home, or in a public place. If you have other animals they must be at the meet.
If at the meet, you and the dog get along- you have the option of either taking the dog on the spot (in exchange for the full adoption fee paid upfront, and contract signed)- or placing the dog on hold for up to 2 days without any holding fee applicable. When adoption begins you will be provided with 7 days' worth of food for the dog, as well as what brand and type of food it is, so that you may change their diet carefully and slowly, or purchase more, if needed.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold dogs for 3 days or longer, without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the dog, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters and so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit non refundable to avoid time-wasters, especially when it comes to puppies under 5 months of age. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the dog. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you pay a $100 holding fee so we can hold the dog for a week- the day you collect the dog you will sign and adoption contract, and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $50 is non-refundable.
During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic in your area and OTC will cover any treatment needed.
On commencement of the trial period, OTC will send you a copy of your signed contract, the vaccination cards, desexing certificate, microchip number and council registration, and will transfer the microchip into your name.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox.
