About Phoebe
Stunning Miss Phoebe is a gorgeous girl, inside and out. This divine young lady comes from strong working lines and the characteristics of her breed are immediately visible - she is loyal, intelligent, quick to learn and will need plenty of mental and physical stimulation in her new home. Phoebe has always lived with other dogs and she makes new friends quickly so we are seeking to place her in a home with an existing canine to provide her with company and friendship. The most suitable option would be a male dog of a similar breed who is still young and energetic and keen to play but will show Phoebe leadership and put up with her getting a bit mouthy and in-your-face at play time.
Phoebe loves to run and play with children and is very tolerant. She will be happy in a family home with kids who respect her boundaries and just want to be her new best friend. She knows some basic commands and is a very 'train-able' dog who will thrive on learning from you and will quickly bond to her new family.
We hope to see Phoebe in a new home where she will be truly included as part of the family - walked every day and regularly taken on fun outings like the park and the beach. Just what every dog deserves, really. If you are keen to enjoy exciting extra-curricular activities with your pooch such as agility, tracking, Dancing with Dogs or the like, Phoebe would be a perfect pick. She is certainly not a dog who should just be left to hang out in the yard all day.
Phoebe has also lived with cats and is very gentle with them (though she does get frustrated if they won't play back!)
So cats, dogs, kids... this girl is good with 'em all!
It is hard to believe with everything that she has going for her, lovely Phoebe suffered abuse and mistreatment as a pup but alas, she tragically did. We don't like to dwell on the sadness of the past but after being beaten and having other dogs forced to attack her, she was going to see an abrupt end with a bullet before a very kind person stepped in and luckily was able to save her. The heart-breaking cruelty she endured has left Phoebe surprisingly unscathed in her general demeanor; however, there are a few things to be aware:
- she can take a dislike to some men, presumably those who remind her of people from her past. She is not aggressive but becomes timid and fearful or will simply keep her distance.
- she often does not like people wearing large hats and again, will tend to keep her distance.
- shouting or growly voices can really frighten Phoebe, to the extent that she has been known to cower, run away and even wet herself
These are not things that are seen often and with continual positive experiences as she matures, we believe that she will overcome these difficulties. It simply means that in the short-term, her family will need be understanding of her potential fears and willing to work through them if/ when they pop up.
Additionally, Phoebe has been kept as a primarily outdoor dog. Of course she adores the opportunity to be inside where the action is, especially loving to sleep on the end of your bed (or in her own cosy bed in the house, if bed-sharing isn't your thing!) She definitely does not like to be left locked outside for long periods of time. However, she still needs to work on her manners in the house and her new family will need to be prepared to work on her house-training in a positive way that rewards desired behaviour rather than punishing mistakes. She also has a mighty appetite and a good nose so food left out on the bench will be at risk.
Phoebe does not have a habit of attempting to escape her yard but of course good, secure fencing will be important to ensure she stays home and stays safe.
This absolutely gorgeous girl is a real gem and deserves the absolute best. We want to find her the most suitable home possible so she can really shine, so if you think you can meet her needs we would love to hear from you today!
Medical notes
Part of Phoebe's nose is very pink and will be prone to getting sunburnt so her new family will need to be aware of this and take appropriate precautions.
Adoption details
Thank you for taking the time to view one of our lovely animals. We love them all and we hope you will too.
If you would like to know more about an animal please call Freedom on 0409 000 259. If it sounds like you and the furry creature are a suitable match then we will pass on the foster carer’s details to you so you can call and make a time to meet them.
Once you have met the animal and wish to go further then we may organise a yard check to ensure that your yard is safe and secure (dogs only). You can then take your new family member home on a 2 week trial and if you decide they are not suitable then you can return them.
If you are not sure how existing animals in your home might be affected, or you want a little extra time to get to know the nature of the animal, we may allow you to foster with a view to adopt.
This pet has been adopted and found love with its new family.
