About Bessie ~ foxy x, 8yo (On Trial 27/5/17)
Bessie is an 8yo, small, fox terrier mix. Her previous home was with an elderly couple and she is used to a calm, predicable environment. She loves being with people and warming a lap. She will take as much TLC as you can give her.
She has a quiet nature. She was a bit shy when she came into foster care but is progressively feeling safer and gaining confidence.
She is living with five other small dogs and is quickly learning to look after herself among the rough and tumble of the group. She gets on well the other dogs that she lives with and with other dogs she meets on her walks. She is living with a mature aged cat and shows no interest in him.
Bessie enjoys a walk and walks nicely on lead. She takes an active interest in the sights and smells of her surroundings.
Bessie is in good health. She has good eyesight and her teeth are clean and gums healthy. There is no problem with her hearing. She enjoys a healthy appetite and is not a fussy eater. She weighs 6.3 kgs and measure about 30 cms from chest to tail. She stands about 25 cms in height. She is mostly white with some tan spots. Small dogs such as Bessie commonly live to around 15 years old so she probably still has half her life ahead of her.
Bessie is an inside dog and needs to be allowed inside, at least when people are home, and to sleep inside. She is housetrained, of course.
While she is an adaptable little lady with tons of charm, we think that she would not be suitable for a family with children or teens as she seeks a more sedate environment.
We believe she would be most suited to a mature aged individual or couple, who are looking for a companionable, well trained and very clean little dog to share the sofa and strolls around the neighbourhood. Having just come from such a home, Bessie would fit in immediately.
If you think Bess might be the furry friend for you, please contact her foster carer Anita on 0424 176 260 or email anita.waters@me.com. Bessie is in foster care in Swansea, NSW (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Bessie's adoption fee is $200 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
