About Barrel
š BARREL š¶ 6.5YO Aussie Bulldogš Tamworth NSW
Barrel's family have had him since a pup and have recently moved from Sydney to Tamworth. He hasn't coped well with this change. Barrel was used to a city life with a regular backyard and daily walks, however he is totally freaked out by the other animals at their new property and is responding with aggression towards them (sheep, cows and horses).
We have been speaking with Barrel's family for a few months, it breaks their heart to do it but feel Barrel deserves to live a happy life in an environment similar to what he was used to growing up in. Unfortunately moving isn't an option so we need to help to find Barrel a new home.
Barrel has grown up with kids, he is very tolerant of them and loves to hang out with them. Saying that, we would want to be sure any kids his new family has are 'dog-friendly' as their space should always be respected.
Barrel loves the company of humans, he is just as happy with males as females. He would love a new owner who has a fair bit of time for him and who he can just 'hang out' with. Barrel is fairly lazy and his favourite 'activity' is sleeping. But Barrel isn't over the top, and if you sit down with him will happily lie next to you rather than trying to sit in your lap.
Barrel has mainly been an outside dog, and on hot days enjoys sleeping in the shade and a dip in his shell pool (he does go through a couple each year as Barrel does love to chew on them and anything else he gets hold of). And Barrel is a chewer, so please don't leave anything with great sentimental value lying around.
Barrel will celebrate his 7th birthday in October. He is microchipped, up to date with vaccinations and was recently desexed. He does have some arthritis in his hips which is currently only obvious when he has been extremely active or on a really long car trip (like when they moved from Sydney to Tamworth). We would recommend fish oil and may need to consider something stronger as he ages.
Barrel is blind in one eye. Unfortunately entroprian (inverted eyelashes) was misdiagnosed as conjunctivitis when Barrel was a pup and it wasn't pick up until it was too late. As his eye isn't causing any discomfort or secondary issues, Barrel hasn't had surgery to stitch the eye closed. This would be something to keep an eye on in the coming years.
It is really important that Barrel is the only pet in his new home and that he is contained in a fully secure yard so that he can't get out.
Barrel loves getting out and about on a lead. He is like a different dog the minute he has a lead on, and will perform the basics sit, stay etc. his new owner doesn't
Barrel is extremely motivated by food and has an addiction to Liver flavoured Schmackos. As a result of this he is a very quick learner. Who said you can't teach an older dog new tricks?
