About Gidget
Sweet little Gidget is a delicate looking girl with long elegant legs. She might be taller than her mum but looks like she will have a finer build. She really is a sweet cuddly little soul who loves to be included in whatever is going on and has great social skills. Top on her list of favourite things is having an afternoon nap in someone's lap on the couch. Gidget is a very smart and cooperative little soul, and will learn really quickly.
She is already walking nicely on the lead. She is house-trained and very good with the dog door, and sleeps through the night. And she is a great little cuddler and really loves to relax and snuggle in.
Gidget was born in Ampilatwatj after her mum Stripe was rescued by a visiting worker from life as an unwanted stray. Initially Stripe was in a bad way, but luckily for her puppies she was being well cared for in the month before they were born. By the time they came to Kunapa Kari in Tennant Creek, Stripe was looking pretty good and her puppies, only a day old, were healthy and doing well.
They have been raised on a rural block on the outskirts of Tennant Creek. It's been a peaceful and protected environment for them, and this really shows in their temperaments. All of the puppies and calm and confident, have learnt how to behave around the bigger dogs, and have had plenty of handling and cuddles from our volunteers and the neighbouring kids who visit.
Stripe herself is a15 kg medium build dog. We have included a picture of her in Anika's profile. The puppies vary in size a lot. Gidget is one of the taller one's but also has one of the lightest builds. Fully grown we expect her to be between 15-20 kg.
Our rescue and rehabilitation work happens in Central Australia, but because of the scarcity of adopters locally, our re-homing operation is in South Australia. Anika's adoption fee includes crate hire, courier transport by road from Tennant Creek to Alice Springs, and a direct flight from Alice Springs to Adelaide.
UPDATE : Gidget is now in foster care in Adelaide, so if you apply to adopt her you can meet her first.
Medical notes
Anika will be wormed and heart-worm treated again just before leaving the Territory. She should be de-wormed fortnightly until 5 months of age and have at least 1 further heart-worm treatment after she arrives down south.
