About Prada ~ 2yo Pom x Chihuahua (On Trial 23/5/17)
Prada is a 2 year old Pomeranian x Chihuahua girl who is absolutely gorgeous and will melt your heart.
Prada came into care by no fault of her own. She was part of a family (with another dog) that could no longer be kept at a rental property. When Prada came into care she was initially timid and very much a "lap dog", always wanting to be with her foster carers. Prada had very strong separation anxiety for the first couple weeks when she came into care. Prada has now settled in and completely come out of her shell. Prada is quite the playful dog with a lot of character to boot. Prada loves playing fetch and chasing/rumble games with her playful foster sister (kelpie X) whilst still being happy to cuddle and settle down for pats throughout the day. Prada will happily follow you around the house all day and constantly wants your company.
Prada is currently homed with two foster sisters (Kelpie x and Daschund x) and gets along fine with other dogs. She has not had experience with cats or pocket pets yet so a meet and greet for anyone with these pets would be essential.
Due to her affinity for company, Prada would suit someone who is home for large portions of the week or a family who have other dogs to keep her company during the day. Prada would be fine in a range of environments from a small apartment or house to a large property.
Prada is only a small dog (about 3.6kg) and needs to be in a home where she can sleep inside somewhere warm at night. Currently she sleeps in a locked laundry at night in a warm bed with her two foster sisters and can access the backyard and laundry via a doggy door during the day while her foster carers are at work. Prada has occasionally been doing her business inside the house (possibly due to her desires to be around her humans or from behaviours that were accepted with her previous family). We are actively working on this with Prada at the moment using simple reward techniques which is having great effects.
Prada is a low to moderate shedding dog and this should be considered by her future family. Due to her Pomeranian descent her coat is semi-long but actually requires minimal maintenance besides a brush once a week or so.
Prada came with no obedience but has learnt the basic sit command so far. It would be ideal if her future owners commit to furthering her learning and also providing a regular routine, and rules and boundaries for her to follow. It is possible that Prada may show some further separation anxiety in her forever home and her new family should be prepared to help her through this until she settles in.
For more information or to meet Prada, please contact her foster carer Katie on 0411 824 044
or email katiehartdrn@gmail.com. Prada is located in the Newcastle area, NSW and is available for adoption interstate.
Prada's adoption fee is $500 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all of our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire. Word format: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx or PDF: http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.pdf
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
