About Burke
Beautiful Burke is such a gentle soul. Placid beyond his years, Burke is a very even tempered, relaxed fella who is happiest when spending time with his owner/s. His favourite past time is to be curled up in a nice warm spot and have a cuddle and a snooze. He is not as large as a typical mastiff, he will be around 40kg by the time he has filled out completely, he currently sits at 36kg and is a little underweight.
Burke has settled into foster care life so beautifully. He is well mannered at all times and an utter joy to have around. He is currently in care with a female dog, a cat and a 6 month old baby and is so gentle and good natured around them all. He really is just the sweetest!
Burke's past is unknown, being left in an overnight pen in a regional pound. At the pound he proved to be a lovely natured dog with humans and other dogs, therefore was rescued to be given a second chance in life. He was obviously a well loved dog at some stage; knows basic commands, has good recall, friendly towards all people, kids and strangers. He loves car rides and clearly used to travel on the back of a ute as he leaps with enthusiasm onto the back of any ute tray he sees!!
He walks reasonably well on lead, though further training required here as he is a strong boy if he sees or smells something he wants to get to! He is not a super energetic dog, but loves a good outing, he would be fine with one walk per day and is also a great slow jogging partner!
Burke is polite around food, takes treats ever so gently and has never shown any food aggression. He has met other male dogs of all sizes whilst in care and is friendly towards them all, though would benefit from further ongoing socialisation. He much prefers being a mostly indoor dog, though enjoys a good sunbake outside. Toilet trained and not destructive, loves a good toy to play with! Burke will occasionally bark if he hears something outside, though is quick to stop once told not to. He can also howl when being left alone in unfamiliar surroundings or if he is feeling unsure. So will do best in a home where someone is home most of the time. He would especially love a spot on the couch (or even his very own chair!), and given the chance, he is quick to hop into bed with you for an early morning snuggle!
Burke deserves a family who will include him in all aspects of their lives and in return will give you a lifetime of the best cuddles you could ask for!
Burke is currently in foster care in Mordialloc.
