About Matt
Matt is a delight to be around. He has fitted into our family perfectly. He is very playful and enjoys the company of both humans and dogs. He has a lovely nature and can be soft and gentle (like a baby in your arms) or boisterous and playful, loving to wrestle and tug on ropes and toys. Matt is energetic and loves to go for walk or play chasing games with his foster sister and brother. He sits under my desk at home and sleeps soundly or settles in close on the couch for a bit of TV time. He has come to enjoy his baths in the laundry sink - the massage and treats just can't be beat!
Matt is very tolerant having been handled and medicated daily since arriving into our care, he is accustomed to being groomed, wearing a coat and socks - most dogs would be agitated by this but he is very easy going and accepting.
Matt has a curious nature so it is important to secure doors and gates at all times as he is as quick as a flash looking around and sniffing new things. He has a lot of energy and sometimes needs a little bit of time away in a quiet area where he can relax and give the older dogs a bit of a rest. Sometimes the games are over but he has a little bit more energy in the tank so during these highly aroused periods sometimes he needs a little circuit breaker and after 5 minutes of grass snuffling, garden sniffing or sunning himself he is sitting at the door ready to come back inside.
Matt has been living indoors with access to a dog door which he has now mastered. He is reminded to go outside a couple of times a day with the other dogs and he toilets outside. He is not overly fond of grass - possibly tickles or irritates his paws and gives him the urge to itch and lick his paws so he prefers garden beds and trees or shrubs during his outdoor time.
Matt would love to sleep with you on the bed or maybe in his own bed beside you. . He seems to thrive on routine and consistency. He has an excellent appetite and is extremely food focused so training him with high value treats is easy. He has learned the joy of fetching the ball just by observing his foster sister so he is a quick learner when there is fun or food involved.
I would recommend a harness for walking as he is quite strong and eager when out walking. (particularly at the start - tapers off to a nice pace) Matt loves the car and jumps in and out like a pro - he has had experience with this no doubt. He doesn't suffer any car sickness and is calm and remains seated when driving.
He can be cheeky, if you hold a biscuit in your hand a bit too low he might have a lick or a nibble, he will sneak a few biscuits from our dogs bowls if they walk away and leave few behind. He sometimes forgets about personal space and will actually sit on the other dogs (who don't mind) and has had experience in getting as close to people as possible on the couch - he has been nursed like a baby in the past I think as he is totally fine with lying in your arms for a smooch and a cuddle. He is a lovely mix of people focused and dog focused. He enjoys being with company of either variety.
Matt greets everyone, dog or human, with excitement and joy. He truly is a kind soul ❤
