About Kodie ~ Moodle, male (on trial 25/05/17)
Hi, I am Kodie and I am a 4 year old male Moodle (Maltese x Poodle) looking for a position as a full time cuddle buddy. I am more than just my good looks. I have a very unique and distinct personality which will frequently make you laugh. I love being around my foster mother and prove to be an exceptional friend to her. I want for nothing more than your love and company, for I will certainly give mine in return.
Kodie’s absolute favourite thing to do is to be with you. He doesn’t mind if you are on the couch or the toilet – he will always be right at your feet. He makes for a truly wonderful friend however this attachment can mean he may get a little protective of you at times. It is important to always introduce Kodie to your friends or visitors and ensure he knows that they are not here to hurt you.
He is an extremely loyal dog and would make an excellent companion for an elderly person/couple. He has copious amounts of love and cuddles to give and is truly like a real life teddy bear – in both behaviour and appearance. With Kodie by your side, it is impossible to feel lonely. He does not ask for much and would be quite content with a walk every few days, but certainly wouldn’t complain if he got to lay on the couch with you all day, every day. Sometimes, Kodie gets a little too cosy on the lounge and may vocalise his unhappiness if moved and for this reason he would be better suited to a family with older children.
It is obvious that Kodie has basic training and certainly knows how to sit and stay. With enough patience and commitment, I am sure that Kodie would be willing to learn many more tricks and manners. Ideally, he would thrive in a home with people who have quite a bit of experience with dogs.
Like any dog, Kodie would prefer a home where his humans are home more often than not. He suffers from mild separation anxiety which is slowly, but surely improving each time it is proven to him that I will return when I leave the house. He travels well in the car and enjoys lying silently whilst you drive – this means you can always bring him along to dog friendly outings!
Kodie does not need to be an only dog but if you have a dog it should be one that will give him space and not annoy him. He grew up with chickens and it is understood that he is not a nuisance or danger to them. I am unsure of what he is like with other pocket pets. Kodie gets on well with cats but is generally happy to pretend they aren’t there. When food is around, he can get snappy if another dog is present and for this reason it is best to separate Kodie at dinner time to avoid any fights!
Kodie is not a very vocal dog and rarely barks. He will however let you know if you have accidentally left him outside or if a stranger is coming inside.
Kodie does not like being outside unless of course you are out there or he needs to use the bathroom – which he does very well. For this reason he must go to a home where he is allowed access inside at all times. He has a non-shedding coat so won't shed hair on you or your furniture. He will need regular bathing and clipping. He refuses to sleep anywhere other than in bed with you and is great at keeping you warm and safe of a night.
If you are interested in welcoming such a devoted and wonderful dog into your home, please don’t hesitate to contact Kodie's carer Emma on 0432035674 (preferred contact – call or text) or email emma-sherwood98@hotmail.com

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
