About Axle
** AXLE **
Axle is our 9month old 'Upside Down and Inside Out' border collie boy!
So why does he get called Upside Down and Inside Out?
Well Axle is the result of just about everything that can go wrong when two merles are bred together.
Axle has...
* Neurological issues
* Hind quarter muscle wastage
* The pads of his feet are actually on the tops of his feet, with one fused pad underneath.
* His penis is in the wrong place and the bone has grown with a significant backwards appearance.
* He is deaf
* He has only partial eyesight
* He has only partial kidney function due to a deformed kidney.
Does it affect how he lives?
Not really.
He's a bit wobbly when he walks due to the neuro issue that delays the signals to his limbs, he sometimes bumps into things or misses due to lack of depth perception, and he squats to pee.
What does it mean for potential adopters?
He's a 'participation award' kind of dog. He's never going to be 'best in show' or win a medal for agility but he'll do the best he can if you ask him to.
His personality is amazing, he's affectionate, sweet, super friendly and great with other dogs, kids, and pocket pets. (He's yet to be introduced to cats.)
He still see's well enough to follow hand signs, but don't go rearranging furniture without showing him the safe way around.
He still needs an outlet for excess energy so boredom buster toys are a favourite and he's also happy for a lazy stroll around the block but he's not suited to a marathon.
He needs free access to the doggy bathroom, he can't hold his bladder for a long period so by the time he tries to tell you he needs to go, he's already going. A doggy door, indoor 'Pee Tree' or other potty training aids would be an excellent option to help limit indoor accidents.
His feet are super sensitive so adopters will need to consider the terrain they walk him to walk on, no sharp bits of rock or hot bitumen for Axle, and don't ask him to walk on wet grass - he won't do it, not even for the most juicy delicious treats.
(Dog shoes are definitely something we think may help)

Adoption details
Hear No Evil's Adoption process:
1st Step * You contact us to obtain an adoption application, and discuss the dog of interest.
Once the application is completed and returned it will be assessed for suitability.
2nd Step * A Meet and Greet with the dog and all members of the adopting family and and current dogs is arranged where possible.
This usually coincides with a Yard check to ensure the safety and security of the property on which the dog will be kept. - We understand that this is not always possible in interstate adoptions and this will be discussed on your initial contact.
3rd Step *Payment of the Adoption fee in full. The dog is then handed over with any belongings, and all relevant paperwork and records.
Transport arrangements are the financial responsibility of the Adopting party. Hear No Evil are happy to assist with departure preparations and ensuring the dog makes its transport connection.
Final step * Once the 14 day 'settling in' period has ended, the change of ownership microchip details are submitted, and the adoption is officially finalised.
