About Meeko
Meeko is full of character and curiosity! Her antics can’t help but make you smile. Loving her people, Meeko follows you around the place readily, enjoying your company and taking part in the goings on. Her recall is good for a young dog, and she is learning to heel on the lead. Meeko is a fast learner - she sits on command, and enthusiastically runs to her spot to wait for her dinner until released to eat. She does jump up sometimes when excited, but responds well to clear boundaries and being a bright young dog will excel with further training.
Meeko stays on her mat inside in the evenings when asked, and will quietly squeak at you if she needs something like a visit outside for the toilet or a drink. She quietly settles in her kennel and dog run at night, and patiently sits at the gate in the morning waiting to be let out. Her exhilaration at the sight of you is gorgeous, leaping about and yelping her good morning greeting!
Meeko is a particularly chatty young miss, humming away to you often as you carry out chores, and at the thought of sharing in an adventure together, Meeko woofs her approval readily! She loves the car, and will jump in to join you any chance she gets. She still finds the ute tray a bit high to master, but being a resourceful girl and not one to miss out, she will jump on the trailer and then up into the tray or put her paws up willing you to give her a lift!
Meeko loves to wrestle and play with her kelpie foster siblings, and wriggles about licking their faces enticing them into a game. Not being quite quick or bold enough to reach the toy first in fetch, Meeko sneakily grabs the ball or Frisbee, and parades around playing can’t catch me! A telling off from the more senior canines from time to time keeps her in line. While she respects their command, Meeko makes sure the world knows she got into trouble - squealing ever so dramatically!! Meeko can be a little nervous on meeting new doggie friends, but with more introductions, she will no doubt become the life of the party.
Meeko is fostered on acreage and doesn’t leave the vicinity of her humans when they are home. She has learnt to behave around the horses, although she still finds it hard to resist a little game of razz with the jersey cow! Meeko loves sitting on the deck and watching the kangaroos, yet she does not chase them. She is a curious girl, stalking grasshoppers and intently following the ramblings of ants! Meeko is good with the chooks, although it’s a bit of a laugh to trot through them innocently and watch them cluck and flap away!! Meeko barks her suspicions when she sees something out of place - a tractor appearing in the neighbours place, or a neighbour themselves arriving for a visit! However, it takes no time at all for her wariness to turn into a welcome!
Even when being cheeky, it is hard to resist Meeko’s cleverness and charms. Appearing in the middle of the house a few times mysteriously - it was finally discovered she had worked out that a broken flyscreen meant access through the bedroom window! It’s hard to be cross when she is clever enough to find her own doggie door in order to be closer to her humans!
A border collie with a medium coat, Meeko certainly enjoys the country life, although she would suit most environments with an individual, couple or family that have time to spend with her. Meeko is a typical young collie type and as such needs company, exercise, and mental stimulation to keep her keen mind settled. She would be content having her humans to herself or living with another older dog to mentor her. Meeko is just a lovely girl that has so much to offer, and she can’t wait to have her own humans to chatter away to every day!
