About Oreo ~ Shar Pei x Koolie puppy (On Trial 6/5/17)
Oreo is a 9 week old Shar Pei x Koolie puppy. This young man knows what he wants and just how to get it. Oreo is the attention seeker of the litter and such a little stunner, he has the Shar Pei coat with Koolie colouring somewhat similar to a tub of Oreo icecream. He has more of the Shar Pei personality but with plenty of Koolie energy to burn.
Oreo is currently living with his 3 other litter mates, 3 adult dogs, 3 children aged 5-10 & an indoor cat.
Shar Peis, when well trained, make superb family dogs who are devoted to their owners and children. They are loyal, playful and active but can also be stubborn and territorial if not trained properly when young. They are naturally suspicious of strangers. They will be fine with cats if they have been introduced to them when puppies but there can be problems mixing with other dogs. They love being indoors and hate the cold.
Koolies are very active dogs because of their herding heritage. Even those kept as companion animals are working dogs who need plenty of exercise and, ideally, a job to do. The Australian Koolie is best suited to owners that are prepared to give their dog the stimulation that it needs, whether that is plenty of exercise and or obedience training. They are not a dog that you can leave in the backyard all day long. They are also not suited to the apartment environment.
Oreo will grow up to be a medium-size dog. We always recommend puppy-training classes to give your new family member the best start in life. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training.
It would be a big plus if you have a friendly adult dog as a teacher, companion and playmate for Oreo. If you don't have another dog to keep him company, then there needs to be someone in the household that doesn't work full time.
Oreo needs to be welcome inside when people are home, and to sleep inside at least until fully grown. He will be wonderful family dog and is suitable for children 5 years and older. You need good fencing with no small gaps.
Oreo's siblings: Sam, Biscuit and Lola are also available for adoption.
As Oreo is not yet desexed, he is only available for adoption to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens because he'll need to be returned to our vet for desexing when he's approximately 5 months old.
For more information or to meet Oreo, please contact Victoria by emailing vdavies93@gmail.com. Oreo is in the Newcastle area, NSW.
Oreo's adoption fee is $500 and includes his desexing, vaccinations and microchipping and he's been treated for fleas and worms. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
