About Toby *Pet of the month $150*
Hi everyone!
My name is Toby and I am an amazing young lad looking for a new forever home. I was abandoned by my owner who asked OTC for help because she 'found me as a stray this morning, I can't drive so can you take him to be scanned for a chip'. Long story short, she owned me for several weeks and simply 'got over it' and decided to lie to a rescue to get out of dumping me herself. I did nothing wrong, in fact I am on the best natured dogs OTC has had in this year! Some people just suck. After an awkward few hours at the council to-and-fro-ing about who technically owned me, it was decided OTC would take me in and look after me. I am so glad they did!!!! I have had so, so much fun since coming into care.
I currently live with two adult dogs, a cat, and birds. I get along great with everyone but it did take me a few days to stop being freaked out by the cat. I think I would prefer to live without any in my new home if possible. I love to come inside and be with the family but am also cool hanging out in the yard. I can and will be a lap dog if you let me. My current family members work both full time and part time so I am used to my carers coming and going. In my new home I either need someone who is not working out of home, OR a dog friend to keep me company. I do not like to be left without any company and get scared if I think I am being abandoned.
My favourite things are balls and treats and I am extremely gentle taking them from your hand. I am too polite for tug-a-war, I will just let you have the rope- but I love to play chase. By far my favourite activity is playing and wrestling with other dogs, I am super gentle when needed but also get into the rough and tumble when the other dog is game and wants me to. I also will offer to share my bone with you if I think you might be hungry too, I am a really caring and kind boy. I walk well on a leash and I sit well in the car, nice and quiet and just watch out the window. I can high-five, shake hands, sit, drop, wait, come and roll over. I currently sleep in the living room at night and don't make a sound during the night. I know and respects the out of bounds areas in my home, and I won't cross the line even with food on the ground- my carer says my manners are better than most humans! I bark at unknown noises but stop at the first command (I'm a good warning guard dog).
My new home will need to have 6ft fencing or electronic fencing to keep me safe- for the first week when I am still getting to know your routine, I get a bit scared that you're abandoning me and if you don't have good fencing I will jump over and run after you. I don't break fencing or dig, I only jump. So don't worry too much, 6ft colourbond for example is all it will take to keep me safe and I don't try to get out for long, just the first little while.
Medical notes
Healthy, happy, handsome.
Adoption details
Before applying, please consider and finalise the following: real estate approval, fence repair if needed, outside shelter areas and look into the dog's breed dietary requirements eg large breed vs medium breed.
Once you are ready to adopt, please complete the OTC Adoption Application questionnaire below. This is not a contract or agreement of any kind, just an expression of interest in the animal. We will not authorise meets unless this has been completed and only approved applications may meet the dogs. Once you are approved and have submitted all relevant information, we will organise for you to meet the dog at your home, or in a public place. If you have other animals they must be at the meet.
If at the meet, you and the dog get along- you have the option of either taking the dog on the spot (in exchange for the full adoption fee paid upfront, and contract signed)- or placing the dog on hold for up to 2 days without any holding fee applicable. When adoption begins you will be provided with 7 days' worth of food for the dog, as well as what brand and type of food it is, so that you may change their diet carefully and slowly, or purchase more, if needed.
*PLEASE NOTE we do not hold dogs for 3 days or longer, without a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the dog, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters and so you may miss out. We have had to make the deposit non refundable to avoid time-wasters, especially when it comes to puppies under 5 months of age. The $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the dog. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you pay a $100 holding fee so we can hold the dog for a week- the day you collect the dog you will sign and adoption contract, and pay the remaining $350 fee of which $50 is non-refundable.
During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic in your area and OTC will cover any treatment needed.
On commencement of the trial period, OTC will send you a copy of your signed contract, the vaccination cards, desexing certificate, microchip number and council registration, and will transfer the microchip into your name.
So. Ready to roll? Then fill out the attached short form, and we will be in contact to successful applicants asap. Feel free to follow us up via Facebook page inbox.
