About Poppy
Meet our very special and very beautiful girl Poppy.
Poppy the 5 month-old German Shepherd arrived at AWLQ as a lost stray... with no one coming forward looking for her she's now in need of finding a new family to love her and give her a place to call home.
When Poppy arrived at AWLQ she had obvious swelling around her elbow joint and was also in too much pain to place any weight on her front leg. Poppy was given pain-killers and x-rays were taken to help identify her injury.
Unfortunately for Poppy the x-ray results showed she had a pre-existing fracture (unsure of the cause) which had started healing incorrectly and was causing more damage to her leg. Based on further orthopaedic specialist opinions it was decided that amputation was the best possible outcome for Poppy as her injury could not be corrected. - Thankfully this has not slowed her down or dampened her spirits one bit!
Poppy sadly had no obvious help or treatment from a vet before coming into our care; because the fracture had been left for so long it started to affect other parts of her body. Poppy has now been diagnosed with having mild arthritis as well as Hip Dysplasia. - Which means she now needs and deserves a very special home.
Poppy will need a family who will help manage her condition to allow her to live life to the fullest! This gorgeous girl is super affectionate loving and of course adorable! She will make an amazing companion for a family who is willing to love her and support her through life.
If you're wanting to provide Poppy the life she deserves please head in to our Gold Coast Rehoming Centre and chat with our team.
