On Hold
About Vinnie ~ purebred mini poodle (On Trial 8/4/17)
Vinnie is a purebred, silver, Miniature Poodle, 5 years old. He is just divine! He is the most gorgeous silver colour that is admired everywhere he goes. This darling boy just wants to be near you and on your lap as much as possible.
He can live harmoniously with other dogs but he’s not interested in playing with them, at least not yet. He’ll share a bed with them though. He is jealous of other dogs getting attention and may try to put himself between you and the other dog when you’re trying to pat the other dog, but isn’t snappy at all. He’s suited to living with one or two placid, submissive dogs his own size. He’d also be happy to be an only dog and claim all the attention for himself. I haven’t seen him with cats but I think he would not be very interested in them. I can test him with a cat if requested.
Vinnie is very well housetrained. He used my doggie door from day one and hasn’t had any accidents indoors. He doesn’t do any male urine marking, in fact, he squats to pee.
He enjoys a daily walk, 20 to 30 minutes, and he walks very nicely on a lead and harness. He can’t be off lead unless he gets more training to ensure he’ll always come back. He can “sit”, “down”, and will “get off” when asked. He’s a quick learner and responds well to positive reinforcement training. He’s very good in the car.
Vinnie was surrendered to Dog Rescue Newcastle when his family moved interstate and couldn’t take Vinnie with them. He was very confused and a bit anxious at first, but in less than a week he made himself right at home. He’s a sweet, sensitive soul who lives for human companionship. He needs a calm, predictable routine, therefore no children under 12.
Being a poodle, he has a low shedding coat which needs regular brushing (every few days depending on length), bathing (every few weeks) and clipping (every 4 to 8 weeks) to keep him comfortable and beautiful. You’ll need to be prepared to pay around $60 for professional clipping if you want a poodle.
Vinnie is very much an indoor dog. He must sleep indoors in a dog bed in a person’s bedroom. He needs to be safely indoors whenever you go out. He may howl with distress if he’s left alone for long periods, especially until he’s thoroughly settled into his new home. For this reason, he needs to go to a home where with someone who is retired (but no older than 70) or not working. He is not suited to an apartment or villa. He needs very secure fences with no small gaps underneath and locks on all gates. Due to his small size, he’s not suited to a house with lots of stairs that would need to be climbed several times a day.
Vinnie has been checked by a vet and had a dental cleaning and is in excellent health. He weighs 4.3kgs.
For more information or to meet Vinnie, please contact his foster carer Terri on 0419 470 910 or email dogrescuenewcastle@gmail.com. Vinnie is in foster care in Charlestown, NSW (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle).

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
