About JD
JD is a very cute little fellow. He was surrendered to us as a LH Chihuahua x Jack Russell and he is just beautiful. There is nothing JD loves more then other dogs, he will snuggle up to his foster carers dog and is constantly looking for a game. It is essential that he has a patient, calm doggy playmate in his new home.
JD loves to play, his favourite games are tug and he is great at fetching too! He can be a bit destructive of his favourite toys, so we intentionally provide him cheap little toys that he is allowed to devour. Enrichment toys such as kongs and puzzle balls are a wonderful way to keep his mind active.
Little JD is quite an anxious dog overall. He was not socialised as well as he should have been as a younger dog, and so he is now learning how to be an involved family member. Gentle, positive training is a must and he is making wonderful progress with his foster carer who is a dog trainer.
JD finds new experiences a bit overwhelming. New people and new dogs do make him anxious, but as soon as he understands he can trust them he is super affectionate. He finds small children quite scary, but he is never snappy or aggressive. He would do fine in a home with older children who were able to give him space as he is getting to know them. Once he had bonded to them, he would be a wonderful family dog for older kids.
There is no question about it, JD is SUPER affectionate. He just loves cuddling and being on the couch. He'd prefer to sleep in the bed with his humans, however is now happily crate trained so will also spend time in his cosy crate very happily. A few toys in the crate mean that he can entertain himself.
He is a dog that could potentially wander off is allowed to be offleash, so his foster carer makes sure she always has him on a long leash when they go for walks on her acreage property. He loves to go for walks and would be an excellent little running companion. He finds dog parks way too scary so we would advise against him having to endure dog parks.
JD's foster carer has a cat who he is great with, although sometimes a little too excitable for. We do not recommend JD goes to a home with pocket pets and birds as he is too interested in these and would honestly like to have a little chomp on them if he could.
As is common with dogs who have been kept exclusively outdoors their whole life. it is taking JD some time to learn his indoor manners. He still has some accidents in the house, especially when he is nervous. His foster carer is continuing to work on this issue and we are looking for a patient and understanding owner who will continue taking him outside regularly and continue with training.
