About Lucy
Lucy is a 14 year old Terrier x. She was originally adopted from the AWL about ten years ago and her adoption papers list her as a Pomeranian x Terrier. She weighs about 7kg and has a wirey Terrier coat.
Lucy's owners separated and she was booked into the vet for euthanasia due to her owner not being able to find pet friendly accomodation. A vet nurse at the veterinary clinic intervened, recognising it just wasn't Lucy's time yet. She offered to foster her and requested Lucy become a CRQ dog! Of course we were happy to help.
Lucy is good with other dogs although she gets slightly fed up with being squished by the Bulldog puppy who she shares her foster home with. Her best friend in her foster home is their big grumpy cat who she often naps alongside. She loves to follow the cat around watching her every move. Lucy's foster mum also has pet rats and she loves to sit and watch them but shows no aggression towards them at all.
Lucy is a gentle and loving girl - she's even met a few babies who she attempts to give a sloppy kiss to, as they're right in her level. She would be very suitable as a family dog.
Due to Lucy's age, she's not as playful as a youngster and seems to prefer relaxing next to you on the couch. Her foster carers have tried all sorts of toy options - balls, soft toys, ropes, harder toys and the puzzle bowl - but they've found that she's just not interested. However Lucy does like to go for walks and so lie beside you.
When her foster mum and dad return home from work, she will twirl around and bounce in the air from excitement. She also has a quirky Terrier trait that her new family shouldn't be concerned of - foster mum Rachelle has discovered Lucy nips the air in front your face when she's excited or happy - it took Rachelle a little while to realise that's why she does it! Lucy loves to follow her people around and loves to be next to someone, however she isn't much of a cuddler, she will lie next to you, but never on top of you
Since being in care, Lucy has had a big dental surgery as she had severe dental disease. She can be a bit fussy with her food, however we believe this is related to the pain from her sore mouth and hope I will improve now she's had surgery. She prefers soft food to her biscuits but just loves her crunchy roo/liver treats!
Medical notes
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs have been fully health checked by our vets. We offer a free post-adoption health check with Greencross Vets at Chermside, Jindalee, Browns Plains or Indooroopilly hospitals. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to the vet about any questions you may have. We provide all veterinary records for each dog, including copies of blood tests, any relevant xrays and medical notes.
All Chihuahua Rescue Queensland dogs are desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We test all our dogs for heartworm and treat them with regular parasite prevention.
Whilst in our care, Lucy has had extensive dental surgery including extractions. She has recovered well from this.
