About Targaryan
Will YOU be my journey partner? Will YOU hold my hand through dark times and good as I hold onto yours? Will YOU be my guiding light if my world goes dark? Will it be YOUR footprint beside mine as we journey together? I am Targaryan the Bold also known as Dread Pirate Targy!
My one eyed good looks are a real drawing card for the ladies. It shows I have been on adventures and sailed the seas as a swash buckling pirate and survived to tell the tale….well it would show that if I was a person or dogs could be pirates….ahem! Did I mention a vivid imagination?
Being a young lad with poor eyesight the world can be a bit scary when shadows walk towards me until they come close enough and I see that they are not scary but lovely people and dogs. I am happy in my heart and it shows in my tail…and my butt as it wags side to side with my tail. I think I am related to Pollyanna because I am always GLAD. Glad to see you, glad to eat, glad to go for a walk, glad to cuddle up beside you for a snooze and ….well….I am just glad about pretty much everything!
I have trouble with stairs because my goofy feet don’t listen to my brain! My brain tells my back feet to WAIT until my front feet are a few steps down and then follow BUT my back feet say to heck with that the front feet are getting away and so they start down too. This makes for what I call the Sydney Harbour Bridge look, with my front feet on the second step and my back feet on the first step with 5 metres of dog body bowed up into a bridge bend between them. If I do lose my eyesight completely, well steps will create more than the Harbour Bridge look, it will be more like a jack knifed semitrailer!!!
I get on well with other dogs and love to meet them. I love people and children but will occasionally bark if I can’t see them clearly and being such a handsome manly man I have a big DEEP voice which when I bark can startle some people. I think I would be better with humans that are not FACE level with my tail as it is like a weapon of mass destruction and is very heavy and solid…(just ask my foster mum) and always in motion. I am really not a fan of fluoro colours and people in High Visibility clothes really scare me because I had a nasty encounter with a man dressed like that it was very painful. My foster mum says I am getting a lot better as she takes me out to places to show me that not all people dressed like that are mean so I don’t bark at them.
I love to chew sticks and tug of war…oh boy the best game ever…EVER! My foster brother and sister play with me but not as much as I would like because (stage whisper….) they are old!!! Really old….like 6 and 8 years old!!! I know right? Practically senile. I love my walks and am really starting to learn the knack of heeling. Sometimes I get a little excited and you might feel like the anchor of a boat in a tsunami but I do calm down quickly with treats…yummy yummy treats. Food is definitely my friend!!! I also have some other tricks like wait, sit, drop and coming when called. While I do love my food I am not into food guarding at all, I let my foster sister sniff my bowl on the way to hers just to reassure her that we are all eating the same thing.
I have not met any cats so I don’t know if I would chase them, sit on them or ignore them. The same goes for birds, guinea pigs and other family pets. I love travelling in the car and like nothing better than to have my head on the inner consul between the front seats so I can be as close to my humans as possible. So if you think you would love to share my life journey and be the reason my tail wags so happily and have the patience, love and kindness to guide me through life then I would love to hear from you…my foster mum???...not so much…(stage whisper) she thinks no-one is good enough to love me for who I am…you know what mothers are like…sigh! I believe out there is my personal light house, the light that will guide this young pirate through the rest of his life.
Medical notes
Tardy is blind in one eye and has a prosthetic eye and there is a chance that he may go blind in his other eye later in life.
