About Hugo ~ Wolfhound X ~ On Trial 14/4/17
Introducing Hugo - a 5 year old wolfhound X who is big bundle of scruffiness. Hugo is a lovely boy who will thrive in a home with a doting family who will do advanced training with him. He is the king of belly rubs who will flop down beside you for a belly scratch.
Hugo is a big lad (around 40kg) and therefore very strong. When he's walked with a front clipping harness he walks well and he will plod along beside you even if you walk fast. He would love a daily walk with his family as he enjoys taking in his surroundings and seeing what's going on in the neighbourhood.
Hugo doesn't need a huge yard as long as he gets a daily walk and he gets attention throughout the day. Wolfhounds are notorious lounge lizards so he will need to be allowed inside when his family is at home. He will happily sleep on his own soft cushioned bed inside (and will add extra blankets himself so that he can plump the bed up just the way he likes it!). Hugo can be a little aloof with you at the start - but once he knows you he gets really excited every time he sees you. He's not particularly coordinated when it comes to treat time and he would rather just snuffle your hand.
Hugo is in care with approximately 100 other medium to large dogs. He's fine with meeting other dogs through the fence but he is still too new to the environment to be out playing with all the dogs during their daytime play sessions. We would like Hugo to go to a home as an only dog due to his large size (2 dogs his size would require a lot of work) and the fact that his new owners could then focus their training efforts solely on Hugo. Hugo is too big for pocket pets, birds and small dogs.
Hugo travels well in the car and loves splashing in water. So if you live near a lake or the beach or you enjoy driving then Hugo will happily take on the role of being your co-pilot. He hasn’t been in care with children, however he may suit a home with older kids or teenagers who are confident with big dogs and won’t be daunted by his size.
If you would like to find out more or meet Hugo please contact Jo on email jo.payne.aus@hotmail.com or phone 0427 695 104 (after business hours). Hugo is in foster care near Morisset, NSW (Central Coast).
Hugo's adoption fee is $400 and includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
