About Spike ~ male Cav x Kelpie pup (Trial 2/3/17)
Spike is a 9 week old, male Cavalier King Charles x Kelpie puppy. He has the most beautiful nature and loves to cuddle. Being cute is only the beginning for this gorgeous boy, with the smarts of a Kelpie and the personality of a Cav, this litter of pups are going to make the most fantastic family members! Spike has short little legs that are a gorgeous dark brown and soft floppy ears. His shiny coat is quite short and I think he will stay a smooth haired dog as he grows.
Spike is being raised in a family home and loves to tumble with his siblings and an older kelpie. He is very playful, but the first one back for cuddles and attention. As Cavalier’s are very people oriented, it will be imperative for Spike that he is not left alone for long periods of time. It would be great for him to have another older dog as a companion and playmate, but if not, he will need someone in the household who does not work full time. He will also need to be welcome inside when people are home, and to sleep inside at least until fully grown.
We always recommend puppy-training classes to give your new family member the best start in life. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training. Spike will be a small to medium sized dog and is suitable for older children who can be gentle with him while he is still a baby. You will need good fencing with no small gaps and enough yard space for him to burn some Kelpie energy. You will also need to be prepared for the chewing, digging and toilet training that comes with owning a new pup.
Spike's siblings: Sapphire, Suri, Candi and Chester are also available for adoption.
As we anticipate we will receive a lot of interest in this litter, please take the time to look through the Dog Rescue Newcastle website and familiarise yourself with the adoption process and yard check requirements. If you are interested in applying for Spike you can do so by contacting his foster carer Lauren at hitthesand@hotmail.com and forwarding your completed adoption questionnaire. Spike is in care in Salamander Bay and will be ready for his forever home from the 1st of March.
As Spike is not yet desexed, he is only available for adoption to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens because he'll need to be returned to our vet for desexing when he's approximately 5 months old.
Spike's adoption fee is $650 and includes his desexing, vaccinations and microchipping and he's been treated for fleas and worms. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
