About Rocky ~ Chihuahua ~ senior (Trial 17/3/17)
Rocky is an adorable little 12 year old Chihuahua. One thing springs to mind when you meet Rocky , and that is “what a little hero!”. He came into Dog Rescue a little shaken having accidently fallen down a mine shaft. However, with his resilient nature and cheeky personality, he survived with only his ego bruised.
He is most content when he knows his people are near. He is not exactly a lap dog, but will occasionally land on your lap for a snuggle before he finds a cosy spot close to you. He tolerates being held but prefers to be on his own feet so he can do his own thing (as long as he can still see his family). Rocky does get on very well with his foster brothers and sisters, all a little taller than him, (all little fluffies). However, Rocky has discovered a new friend next door, a bigger dog, and he frequently has discussions with her! Rocky also has not experienced being around cats whilst in Foster care so not sure how he would react to a feline friend.
Rocky doesn’t seem overly toy focussed but enjoys a bit of a game with his doggy friends. He is a bit particular with his food and more inclined to chicken and mince, rather than tin or dry food. He also seems a little put off by his dog bowls for his meals (wondering if he was hand fed) but has no trouble with his water bowl. He is also toilet trained, (after an initial few accidents when settling in) and is getting used to the doggy door.
Rocky is a fabulous in the car, a very calm passenger. He does love a walk, however, struggles with pulling on his lead and repeatedly choking himself. He is best walked on a harness.
All round, Rocky is an ideal little companion dog. He is happy to be with you, to check on you and to be a full time member of your life. He has coped with older children very well ( ages 10 and above) who respects his need to have cuddles on his terms but I don’t think he would enjoy being around younger children if they were wanting to pick him up often.
For more information or to meet Name, please contact his foster carer Lea via email leaparker4@optusnet.com.au. Rocky is in foster care in Cardiff, NSW (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
