About Benji ~ Border Collie x Golden (on trial 5/03/17)
Benji is a 2 and a half year old male Border Collie X Golden Retriever who loves the great outdoors. He loves water, so the beach is one of his favourite places. He also doesn’t mind 4WD-ing! Benji is good with children and other dogs, knows basic commands (sit, shake hands, hug), and loves to play tug of war.
Since Benji is a working breed of dog, he needs a large yard or acres to run, and would suit being a mostly outside family member. He likes human friends but isn’t overly needy, though a similar minded dog friend to keep him company would be nice, considering he has spent most of his life with another dog (female Dalmatian x who is also available for adoption). It takes a few days for Benji to grow to like new people, but once he does, he’s very charming and loyal.
Benji has a beautiful long coat that will need regular brushing and washing. He loves his baths, is tall, lean and lanky.
Benji has some quirks in his personality. Sometimes he chases his tail, and sometime he snaps at the air like a crocodile, snap-snap-snap! Benji also likes to bark at things like other barking dogs in the neighbourhood, birds, and neighbours being noisy in their yard with lawn mowers or wiper snippers.
His previous owners loved he and his “sister” dearly, but decided it was in their best interest to have a larger yard than the one they could provide. They had to move house, and Benji did not cope well with the down sized yard. The owners would be very pleased if both dogs could be adopted together, but understand that that may not be possible (Belle is very lovable!).
For more information or to meet Benji, please contact his foster carer Sherona on 0434 572 609 or email spillidg3@gmail.com. Benji in foster care in Rathmines, NSW (Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Benji's adoption fee is $450 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au

Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
