About Mia
Name: Mia

Age: 7 years
Sex: Female
Location: Victoria Point, QLD
Cat Friendly: Unknown
Dog Friendly: Yes
Child Friendly: Yes- 8 years+
House trained: Yes
Separation Anxiety: No
Indoor/outdoor dog? Both
Mia is simply delightful. She was a loyal and loving companion to her human for 7 years. Sadly her human is now in a nursing home. Mia is enjoying her time in foster care, meeting and greeting so many new dogs, large and small. She has a small walk (15 mins) twice a day in order to bring her fitness level up and she loves being out and about. She has learnt how to play with toys and enjoys that pastime too. But what she really enjoys, what she loves most in life, is human companionship.
Mia would be an ideal companion for someone who can spend time with her (although she displays no signs of separation anxiety she does seek out human company over doggie company). She does get on well with other dogs so having a doggie friend, although not vital, would also be a nice option for her. She is a well rounded, extremely obedient, cute as a button wee girl.
Medical notes
Mia will be desexed, vaccinated, microchipped & heart worm tested.
Mia came into care with some health issues, SHARI had Mia tested at a local vet and it was discovered she has a high level of cortisol. Unfortunately the results were not conclusive but are pointing towards Cushings Disease.
Cushing's disease is a condition in which the adrenal glands overproduce certain hormones. The medical term for this disease is hyperadrenocorticism.
The adrenal glands produce several vital substances, which regulate a variety of body functions and are necessary to sustain life. The most widely known of these substances is cortisol, commonly known as cortisone.
The most common clinical signs associated with Cushing's disease in dogs include:-
* an increase in appetite,
* an increase in water consumption,
* an increase in urination.
Some dogs may also experience:-
* lethargy, or lack of activity,
* decline in coat quality.
Many of these dogs develop a bloated or "pot-bellied" appearance to their abdomen due to an increase of fat within the abdominal organs and a stretching of the abdominal wall as the organs get heavier. The pot-bellied appearance also develops because the muscles of the abdominal wall become weaker. Panting and increased appetite are other common findings with this disease.
Mia requires no medication or special care currently however may require medical intervention at a later date in her life, for this reason Mia will be adopted with a medical waiver.
