Gemma

Gemma - sweet and kind and a little bit cheeky! Charming Miss Gemma is a special kelpie that will snuggle into your arms and then into your heart forever!

Gemma loves her people. She adores cuddles and hanging out doing whatever it is you’re up to. She’ll follow the four wheel bike around the paddocks, walk with you checking fences, and watch while you trim horses. Gemma will curl up under the bench in the workshop and sleep by your side all day. She loves to have a potter around - and if not much is happening she’ll go for a jaunt in the paddock on her own, maybe stalking the kangaroos a little... but a whistle promptly see’s her running her heart out back to your side!

Gemma enjoys playing with her doggie mates. She can be a little shy initially, especially with bolder dogs, but it doesn’t take long for her to join in a chasey or wrestling game! She plays tag with her foster siblings and rolls around with them on the grass. Gemma loves frolicking in the paddocks, and long grass is so much fun to bound through! Running in wide arcs she enjoys the open spaces, then splashes in the edges of the dam to cool off. Gemma is a considered young lady, although she runs and plays... and rolls... and leaps through long grass... she always has an air of thoughtfulness which tempers her young dog enthusiasms a little.

Gemma sits and waits for her dinner, and her recall is good (with the odd reminder when she is distracted!). Gemma has not had a lot of practice walking on lead, but she does not pull, and her desire to be with her humans, and her enjoyment for your attention would quickly see her learn anything you choose to teach her. Gemma does gently jump up sometimes, clipping on to you, hoping for a pat. Easy to correct, but not easy to resist! She often lies with her legs splayed out behind her and comically rests a bit like a frog!
Gemma happily accompanies you on horse rides and follows along well. She is great with the chooks... and she is learning not to be so great at eating their eggs! A stunning black and creamy coloured smaller style kelpie, Gemma just loves a scratch and a cuddle. Her beautiful ears are expressive, and frames her curious face when she looks at you. It’s hard not to smile when she “chortles” at you expressing her excitement!

Gemma is an inquisitive girl, with a good nature and an endearing personality. Being a young kelpie, Gemma of course needs a home that is able to provide regular exercise and mental stimulation to keep her clever mind settled.

Gemma is fostered on acreage with farm fencing and does not wander when her humans are home. When left home alone in her secure dog run she settles well – especially with a bone or a treat! Gemma quietly sleeps on her bed inside at night. She likes travelling in the car and the ute, and waits quietly while you run your errands in town. Gemma would need practice and time to settle in to the big wide world out there if suburbia was to be her home, but her good nature should see her adapt to most environments, provided her human gives her plenty of the companionship that she deserves.

Gemma would suit an individual, couple, or family who have time to spend with her. She would excel with further training and one on one attention. Gemma is truly a gem, and it will be a lucky person that welcomes this gleaming young kelpie girl into their life forever!
