Wally

Wally was surrendered as a three year old failed racer and has been staying with us in foster care for almost 3 weeks now.
He has settled in beautifully with foster sister Tilly, a collie x kelpie x ? rescue girl and he seems really relaxed and happy in his new temporary home.
Wally spends about 70% of the time snoozing on the couch in typical greyhound style. Until he hears someone open the fridge or the pantry door and springs up to stick his snoot in. He loves food and will try to steal it any chance he gets but has not shown any signs of food aggression. I wouldn't test it though and Tilly and Wally are always fed separately. He did growl once at his foster dad when he tried to take a rock he was trying to eat away from him.

Wally has become quite affectionate. He enjoys a pat and if his foster parents are sitting together on the couch or a bed, he likes to rest his head or paw on them or on Tilly. She tolerates it. He seems to have learned quickly when to give her space. If he tries to play with her she gives him the cold shoulder and he doesn't push it - moves onto a toy or some other item of interest.

When Wally first arrived he was newly de-sesexed and sprayed on things inside - however after the first week, as he feels at home, this seems to have stopped.

Before his foster parents both go to work, Wally enjoys a 45 minutes walk straight after breakfast. Wally gets very excited and looks forward to his walks. He is allowed to run around with Tilly inside a fenced in area and he'll gambol around for a bit but we have only really seen him zoom once. After his walk, he's tired and sleeps most of the rest of the day. We haven't heard him bark or whine when he is left with Tilly at home and he seems be cope okay. But if his foster family is inside and he's out for 10 or 15 min, he'll bark to let them know he wants to come in, which we're trying to discourage.

Although Wally lives with Tilly in foster care, we found him unsuitable to live or play with very small fluffy dogs. Wally encountered a small fluffy white dog at the park who was running towards him and he did not react too well. No one got hurt but we think Wally would be best in a home without a small fluffy dog. Wally is also not cat friendly.

Wally sleeps either on his blanket at the foot of the bed or on the guest bed, sometimes with Tilly. He can be a little restless in the night but always settles back down. The two of them gang up and bother us when they decide it's time for breakfast a bit before 6am.

He has such a sweet nature and he does seem eager to please. The foster mum rarely rewards him with treats because he is so motivated by praise. He was quite playful initially but in the past week he seems to have given up his toys and games in favour of naps. His personality is developing with every day.
