About Hamish ~ Red Kelpie X ~ On Trial 18/2/17
Introducing Hamish – a beautiful soul that was recently rescued from a rural pound after being found wandering in a remote area with a broken chain around his neck. We are unsure of his exact breed or age – the vet estimates that he may be around 4 years old and is possibly a Red Kelpie x Cattle Dog mix. No matter what his breed mix or age, this is one gorgeous boy who will win you over with his sweet temperament and is overdue for a loving and attentive family life. Hamish has beautiful golden eyes who will melt your heart.
Hamish is looking for a very special foster carer or adoptive family who will spend time teaching him the basics of family life and giving him the love he deserves. We don’t think Hamish has had any indoors time prior to coming into rescue, he is unsure how to act when inside the house even though he loves being where you are (where ever that may be!). He isn’t house trained, so he will need to be taught the basics. Although he is behind in his training and socialisation, he is very attentive and eager to please so he will thrive with a family who are willing to spend time teaching him the ropes in a positive way.
Hamish loves sitting at your feet and putting his head on your lap for pats. He is quite shy however he will happily become your friend as soon as he realises you are befriending him. He is a calm and unassuming boy who happily just rolls with the flow of activity around him. He has met young children and was very well mannered with them – he doesn’t jump up or play rough around them.
Hamish is very underweight and therefore currently not very active, however once he has put on more weight we should see a more active boy emerge who will enjoy daily exercise and walks. He needs 3 meals a day currently to help him reach a healthy weight.
Hamish will need 6 foot colourbond fences all around to keep him safe – we believe he has been previously tied up a lot due to the broken chain on his neck and the fact he will get stressed if he’s tied up. He loves to climb on top of things like a goat so he will need some training to remind him that climbing is not good doggy manners!
He would best suit a family or couple who are either home a lot or have another dog as a companion whilst the family is out. He is great when meeting other dogs, and is best matched with a robust very friendly dog as he’s still learning the rules of play.
If you have a special spot in your heart to help this very special boy then please contact Jo on email jo.payne.aus@hotmail.com or phone 0427 695 104 (after business hours). Hamish is in foster care near Morisset, NSW (Central Coast).
Hamish's adoption fee is $400 and includes his desexing, vaccinations, flea and worm treatments, microchipping, and lifetime registration. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Medical notes
Hamish is very underweight and is a very sensitive and slow eater. He is currently in a kennel style environment and therefore finds it a little overwhelming to eat in his slow "grazing" style. To put on a healthy amount of weight Hamish needs to be fed a home cooked diet (eg. chicken, rice, vegies, sardines, tuna, meat with good quality kibble) preferably 3 times a day.
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
