Tango

Tango is a beautiful natured 4 month old german pointer x (we are thinking she has definitely got some great dane in her) that is terrific with people and dogs and makes friends wherever she goes.

Tango is a big cuddle monster and would gladly spoon you on the couch, if given half the chance. She wouldn't be suited to a completely outdoor life where she was separated from her humans, she wants to be a part of the family. So far Tango has visted both our local pub and cafe and has been on her best behavior everytime. She loved all of the extra attention from passers by (and trust us, she gets a lot)!

Tango will need training but the good news is that so far she is proving to be very trainable. In the 2 weeks we have had her she has learned sit and stay and will respond to these commands most of the time. She still hasn't quite learned her name but responds to tone of voice and hand gestures. At first Tango was very difficult to walk on the lead, pulling us along and tripping us up by crossing from one side of the path to another. After speaking with other foster carers we tried out using a 'halti' lead. This has made an incredible difference and completely stopped the pulling.

Tango is in the puppy chewing phase!!! Anything you wish to keep intact will need to be put out of reach. A variety of toys to keep her interested during down time will also be a must. She is also completely unaware of her large size and will jump in excitement when people arrive or stop to pat her on the street, leading to unintentional scratches from her large paws. We have been trying to train her out of this behaviour with some success and we do believe that she will eventually stop this behaviour if training is continued, however this may make Tango an unsuitable choice for those with small children. At first Tango had a few separation issues, howling when left alone. However crate training has almost eradicated this behaviour entirely! Crate training has also helped with toilet training, however she is still having the occasional accident.

While Tango is great with both cats and dogs of all sizes, we have found that her number one priorty is human companionship. She will happily play with other dogs, frolicking and joining in games for a little while. However she will always end up sitting at your feet, begging for pats, before long. She is so relaxed and unfazed by anything, we've never met any dog quite like her.
