About Hunter
This very handsome gentleman was impounded in Tennant Creek after being found wandering around town. He had a microchip but the details were not current. The rangers advertised him and asked around but could not find his owner, so he has come into out care for rehoming.
Initially he was quite nervous and anxious after coming out of the Pound, but he soon gained confidence, calmed down and is really showing us his lovely nature.
Out on walks he is impeccable on the lead, walking right next to my leg on a loose lead. Off lead he goes off exploring in the bush with the other dogs, and just loves a big run. He always knows where I am though and comes back when I call him to head home. At home in the yard he has shown no interest in digging or jumping, and has been happy to amuse himself outside when I am at work, always there to greet me when I come home.
He loves a cuddle and is nice and relaxed around the house. While tall and athletic in build, he only weighs in at 18 kg, so he is a really nice size for a cuddle. He is also really intelligent and teachable, and enjoys the special interactions involved in his lessons.
Hunter loves his doggy mates and plays chasey and tug toys with anyone who's up for it. While he looks quite regal he's still a bit of a puppy at heart.
Hunter would be great in a home with another playful dog, and an active owner who would get out and about with him. He really is a terrific dog. We love him very much for his sweet nature and comical ways, and know that he will make some lucky person very happy.
Our rescue and rehabilitation work happens in Central Australia, but because of the scarcity of adopters locally, our re-homing operation is in South Australia. Hunter's adoption fee includes crate hire, courier transport by road from Tennant Creek to Alice Springs, and a direct flight from Alice Springs to Adelaide.
Medical notes
He will be wormed and heart-worm treated again just before leaving the Territory. Hunter should be de-wormed fortnightly for a month and have at least 1 further heart-worm treatment after he arrives down south.
Adoption details
We request that prospective adopters email us with an initial enquiry. We will forward an application form. On receipt of the application form, we will make phone contact to discuss the adoption. We try hard to match the dog to the person, ultimately looking for the best fit for the dog.
