About Lenny - Red Flag (De-sexed)
Meet Lenny! ~ RED FLAG! ~
What is a Red Flag?
A red flagged guinea pig means that he/she has had a bad experience either from neglect or ignorance these guinea pigs are looking for an extra special home where they can get the care and love they so desperately disserve.
Lenny is de-sexed and will be available for adoption from the 10/02/2017 after he has fully recovered
In this case Lenny is looking for a very very special home as he has some special needs himself.
Lenny suffers from Microphthlamia or better known the Lethal Gene.
Microphthlamia or better known as the Lethal gene is caused by breeding a roan x roan or Dalmatian x Dalmatian together which can resulting in a genetic deformity.
In Lenny’s Case he suffers from the follow:
1. Blind (Small and under under formed)
2. Completely white (due to no pigmentation of the skin)
3. Deaf
4. when he was a baby his incisors used to grow in and fall out randomly but this has sense stopped and he appears to have not dental issues but you will need to monitor his dental health
5. Noticeable head tilt.
6. Overall very small in size
What is involved in caring for Lenny?
Well Lenny is a pretty special case and looks after himself pretty well! He is able to drink from a water bottle on her own and he gets around his cage just fine (Just don't move things around too much as he gets confused, being both blind and deaf) but he dose adjust very well to his surroundings so as long as you don't move things to often he remembers where things re and finds them without any issues..
He gets along great with other guinea pigs and can be adopted on his own to be friends with another guinea pig you may already have or with another guinea pig from the shelter, he is de-sexed so he could even be adopted with his sister Luna! He is currently housed with another beautiful male and could also be adopted with him
He is able to eat normally like any other guinea pig but due to his history of incisors falling out at random you will need to make sure to keep a very close eye on this and be prepared to treat this issue if it was to come about.
This has not happened in well over 6 months though so I am not sure if this was only an issue he had when a baby and he has grown out of it.
His molars appear normal at this stage but you will be required to keep an eye on this in the future.
Due to Lenny’s Condition the shelter is happy to keep him but in the case that a home comes along that would suit her better e.g. a Vet or Vet nurse with Guinea Pig experience who is able to give her more one on one TLC then that of a shelter then we would love to see him go to a loving home.
(We will not adopt to other shelters as again she is welcome to stay here we are only looking for a home that is able to give her more TLC then what a busy shelter can give)
PLEASE NOTE: If you want to adopt Lenny you will need to explain what makes you think you are a suitable home for Lenny and also send photos of where you wish to house him.
An Ideal home for Lenny would be
1. A Vet or Vet nurse with Guinea pig experience or a volunteer for a guinea pig rescue or an owner that is able to get a reference from a vet/ or Animal Rescue stating they are responsible pet owners.
2. Owning only a few guinea pigs
3. Indoor home (No cages with ramps)
4. Someone that is willing to go to the vets for regular health checks
5. No children (or very calm children)
6. Someone willing to update the shelter every few months
7. Experienced guinea pig owner
