About Ducky ~ Chihuahua x Pomeranian ~ (on trial 22/1/17
Introducing Ducky, male Chihuahua x Pomeranian, black and tan in colour with a low-shedding coat. His date of birth is 9/7/13 so he is currently 3 & 1/2 years old. He weighs about 4kg. He was given this name by his previous owner’s grandchild.
Ducky is the kindest sweetest little boy, but can be understandably quite timid with new people and sounds. Vehicle noises don’t bother him, but loud crowd sounds seem to make him anxious for a moment or two.
He loves his daily walks very much, and he is very good on a lead. He rarely stops to mark his territory and does not wander between your legs much or pull to chase other dogs. Ducky’s favourite things are walks, cuddles and tummy rubs.
Ducky was sadly surrendered due to his owner passing away, and has found himself a long way from home and the world he knew. He did live with another dog previously and currently shares his foster home with a senior dog who is blind and deaf. As you can imagine there is not much playing going on between those two dogs.
Ducky is untested with cats and pocket pets at this stage.
There are no small children at Ducky’s foster parent’s home, and we haven’t had the opportunity yet to meet any.
Ducky was great at the groomers to get his hair cut and his toenails clipped. He was also well behaved at the vets getting his needles.
He doesn’t appear to eat a set meal, but likes to graze on kibble through the day. He is not keen on canned food or dog mince cooked with vegetables, but perhaps we just have not found his favourite food yet. He wants to share our meals, so I have given him BBQ chicken which he seemed to enjoy. He only has a little tummy so he eats small amounts often.
Ducky would ideally suit an older person or couple, or a single owner that would love a lap dog at night, and he would be your little shadow during the day. He appears to be well behaved when left alone, but he really enjoys his human’s company. Ducky would be good as an only dog, or with another small dog.
Ducky enjoys being both inside and outside during the day, but loves sleeping inside at night on our bed. He is toilet-trained and has had no accidents inside his foster parents’ home.
Ducky recently had a vet check-up, and has lovely clean teeth. Lots of raw bones will keep his teeth nice and healthy.
Ducky is not a digger, and he doesn’t try to escape at all. Ducky is generally quiet most of the time, but he will bark to alert you to a visitor, or if someone walks past as he likes protecting his yard and territory. He is quite the stickybeak, loves to sit on the back of the lounge and look out the window.
When you meet him you will fall in love with him. He has brown eyes that make you melt when he looks adoringly at you. Ducky is a joy to foster but needs his own family to love him unconditionally.
For more information or to meet Ducky, please contact his foster carer Kathy on 0409319877(SMS) or email kathyjones1961@hotmail.com. Ducky is in foster care in Lambton, NSW (Newcastle) and is available for adoption interstate.
Ducky's adoption fee is $450 and he is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped, and lifetime registered. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
Adoption details
(1) The first step is to phone or email the foster carer listed on the pet's profile (scroll to the bottom on the description). They can answer your questions and will ask you about the sort of home you are offering and may ask you to fill in our Adoption Questionnaire http://www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au/adopt/adoptionquestionnaire.docx
(2) If the questionnaire is approved you can arrange to meet the pet, usually at the foster carer's home or nearby.
(3) If that goes well we will arrange a property check so we can verify that your home and yard are suitable for the pet you've selected. We will ask to see photo ID.
(4) If both sides agree, then you can pay for and adopt your new family member! The two week trial begins on the day of adoption.
