Alfie is a 4 year old Chinese crested terrier mix.
Alfie has had hard start to life and sadly when he came into care he had no trust in people what so ever, Alfie has been in foster care for a number of months to help him overcome some of his fears, he needed to experience what it was like to be in a home, to be loved and cared for and to learn that people and the rest of the world weren’t out to hurt him.
Alfie has come a long way but he still needs time, patience and space to help him truly be comfortable and to feel at home, Alfie has learnt to trust his foster carers and does come up to them for treats and the occasional pat, he allows them to pick him up, he sits on their laps when watching TV but won’t stay if they get up.
Alfie is a beautiful dog who has an adorable personality that is really coming through the more he settles, he has started to run around the house randomly and does get excited when his foster mums get home but wont approach them and if he does he’ll sniff them and then run away with happiness.
Alfie does like to hide away when he feels overwhelmed, he’ll find a bed in the corner, or hide behind the lounge as sense of security but when he feels it is safe he will come out and walk around or find somewhere to sleep.
Alfie has micropthalmia of one eye meaning the eye ball did not develop so he only has sight in the one eye, it doesn’t cause him any pain and or discomfort and he certainly isn’t bothered by it.
Alfie needs someone who is willing to give him the space he needs as well as someone who is willing to sit with him for periods of time to help him get used to you and to start trusting you, he won’t openly come up and jump on your lap he doesn’t have the confidence to do that, we do hope in time and in the right home he’ll open up even more.
Alfie doesn’t like too much commotion so a really busy home or a home with kids would not be the right home for him, he needs a quieter more laid back home, Alfie will need a home with another dog as he finds comfort in them, he is great with other small dogs as well as cats and rabbits. Alfie is not yet comfortable walking on the lead, He is toilet trained but when he feels frightened or uncertain he has had accidents in the house.
