About Julia a beautiful affectionate girl
**experienced dog owner essential.**
Julia is deaf.
**Sydney adoption only.**
It is suggested that the prospective new owner comes to visit Julia on several occasions and also takes her for a walk. Julia should also be taken to new owners home by her carer a few times so she is familiar with the surroundings prior to rehoming.
23 months old Maltese cross.
Weight 9.5 kg.
Little Julia who is a beautiful special girl, is deaf and has not had much socialisation prior to coming into care. Her previous owner claims not to have known Julia was deaf therefore during the critical period of Julia's development there would have been added confusion and no training.
A sweet girl who is slowly learning to trust, Julia can be frightened and will growl. This will abate as her trust in her new owner is increased.
She is a wonderful companion who is always pleased to see her human. Her little tail wags and she gives big kisses and little squeals.
Julia will bark at a new person who comes to the home. She is best ignored in this situation and she soon calms down. We put her on a lead when people are expected.
She is a great little alarm dog if she can see something amiss or unfamiliar. Her sense of smell is also excellent which is common in dogs who are lacking in other senses.
It is important that a person is always conscious that Julia is deaf so that she is not startled by a touch or sudden movement. She needs to know that you are approaching her. Hand signals are important so Julia knows you are beckoning her. We all like boundaries and Julia is no different.
Routine and structure are paramount for Julia's well being and happiness.
She loves her pats and she loves human company. She is a lap dog and she enjoys her cuddles on the couch. Julia has a lot of love to give and in the short time she has been with her carer a great bond has been established. If she feels she isn't getting enough love she will crawl all over her carer and nudge with her nose. You aren't allowed to forget her if she wants a pat or scratch! She sleeps well and is content to nap a lot through the day like most dogs. She is not hyperactive but will get very excited when she sees her lead.
She is suited to a quiet household with one or two people and with another dog who is easy going.
She isn't a dominant dog as a rule and gets on well with the three older dogs in carers home. On day 2 she started to play with one of the other dogs in care which has been wonderful to watch.
This dear little girl is house trained and she uses the doggy door.
Enthusiastic about her walks Julia needs some training on the lead as she does pull a lot. She loves to get out and about to sniff and investigate.
Being on the larger side of a small dog she is not suitable for a very elderly or frail person.
No children please and no full time workers please as Julia needs understanding and patience and a lot of loving attention.
She is an affectionate baby who just wants to be loved and to feel safe.
